Dust from odd sources
I've been a bit obsessive about dust control as wood dust is carcinogenic.
As a faceplate turner (mostly) a lot of sanding is involved and to deal with that:
* Big Gulp inlet attached to 2hp dusty
* box type air scrubber hung from the ceiling
* fresh air source blowing from behind me twds the Big Gulp on the lathe far side
* filtered visor
I used to clean up the floor, bench etc after each session but have got slack.
I modded a dusty sweep but it was never v. effective so a clean up involved some time with the broom, dust and pan.
Last month or so, each time I went into the shed I started sneezing and put it down to a bad hayfever season. But now I think it's from fine dust particles that I'm kicking into the air and an increasing sensitivity to them.
So it's back to regular clean ups and I've ordered a vacuum wand from Carba-tec to make them easier.
Will report back on how well it works.Cheers, Ern

Sounds good Peter.
With what bits I have I couldn't emulate the Wand at their price. So we'll see.Cheers, Ern

Arrived and tested. Good result.
Plenty of suction. Enough to lift the carpet square in front of the workbench. That's at the end of a longish line from the 2hp dusty with plenty of flex duct in the middle.
Sucked up a good volume of admittedly fairly fine pigs tails and dust.
Bonus was a short brush-end wand.
A quick fit 10cm connector worked fine on the main tube end and the supplied dust gate.
For the money and the result, full marks.Cheers, Ern

Update:
The quick fit connector on the end of the flex duct and the brush wand are not a good match but a wrap of fabric tape has fixed that.
The quick fit is also showing a tendency to slip off the clear plakky tube that makes up the main wand so that needs a fix too.
As always, max flexibility in use is served by the highly flexible duct from Carbatec but that consumes sucking power. Still, it works.Cheers, Ern
