    Default Dust tools in the Shopping Center!!!

    Ok, they were being used by some cabinet makers and shopfitters who were working on a new shop but hey, I'll take what I can get when the missus is shoe shopping.

    I noticed a guy grinding concrete and thought "that's pretty quiet - and where's the dust?" So I abandoned the missus and wandered through the gathered teens to have a look. There it was, an aussie made 50 lt commercial pre-separator with 50mm fittings - first time I have seen one.

    So, out with the phone and take a crappy pic, then off to Google to find where they come from. They are made by a company in Swan Hill called Floorex and the 50 liter unit appears to sell for about $400 but I am not sure how current the price is.

    This is dearer than the dust deputy which is about $200 but is cheaper than the Super Dust Deputy which is about $550. If you get the mobility kit for the DD it is another $110.

    Might be a good option for some, and made in Oz!

    the larger machines have full on cylcones for dust collection, there are even 3ph units for the big big grinders,



    i think these things retail for around 5k do a nice job

    Erk! No, I was talking about the small blue unit, the pre-separator, you could use it for woodworking. Not many of us could afford $5k for a vac!

    Thanks for posting, very interesting. If its anything like the Bill Pentz mini then it would probably work best with a large vacuum. If you read Bill's info on these 'mini's' it seems that they are designed for vacs that are generally a bit bigger than our usual workshop units. I have a few installed on various size units ( 1 and 2 motor etc) and they do work better on the larger unit. IMO
    I would love to see how they are designed/made.

    Did you guys know that the Metabo vacuums Product catalogue handheld powertools - Products - Metabo Australia - Power tools built by professionals for professionals do not require a cyclone separator and they are only about $1200 I think. These have large, self cleaning filters and will take concrete dust grinding for 10 minutes before needing a 10 sec. clean.
    They are a brilliant vac for concrete dust, I sold many of them to contractors years ago and they almost never stop even with several hours a week of concrete dust and cleaning. Never had to replace filters on any of them.

    Another advantage is the 38mm hose which is lighter and more flexible than 50mm. The reason that separator uses 50mm hose is because the shroud has a big opening at the front for edging which throws dust everywhere.
