    Default Dusty into rubbish bin

While I am on a roll asking lots of questions here is another..

The 2HP dusty is outside in its own cover/lean to, at present it just blows crapy dust n stuff all over the back paddock, but I am thinking of being a good boy and putting it into a wheelie rubbish bin for disposal.
I have a gap/space around 400mm between the bottom of the modified/inverted outlet as shown in one of the stickys and the top of wheelie bin.

My gut reaction is using a piece of sheet metal tek screwed to the inside of the bin at the top so it pokes up 100mm , then to create a lip glue some poly pipe to the top of sheet metal. Then using a piece of canvas or similar, that would be secured to the dusty bottom lip, and use a small ratchet strap to hold over the 'lip' on the bin.

This way when bin is getting full, undo the ratchet strap, remove wheelie bin and quietly dispose of at rubbish tip.
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

As someone whos just bought a new diet extractor and this is my first time dealing with the bags i too have already started to think about something similar for getting the dust into a plastic or steel garbage bin.

Using a ratchet strap and something like canvas is actually a pretty good idea.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking about it

Make sure you have a way of seeing into the big to see if its getting close to full. If not you could end up with sawdust settling out inside your ducting not to mention leaving a heap off fine dust uncollected in your shed.

I would be careful about using a non circular bin on these dust duct collectors as they make use of a small amount of cyclonic action to separate out the bigger chunks of sawdust from the finer dust. If a non-circular bin is used this my stymie the cyclonic action and more larger dust particles may impact/abrade the filter. This may clog the filters quicker than usual and may also damage the filters.

If your ducting is 4" you might consider this:

Rain Harvesting 100mm High Level Flanged Tank Overflow Outlet

I used 2 to turn a bin into a cyclonic catcher for the chunky stuff and catch finer stuff downstream.

I'd be thinking some sort of cyclone to gravity feed the bin and let the fine stuff be free. Should catch the bulk without losing efficiancy. Or aim it towards annoying neighbors (council problems -not my fault) Something like shadecloth might help if you can get away with such set ups.

I've set mine up similar to this, without the extra flexi hose, before the DE, into a large wheelie bin that I found on the side of the road.
    HONESTLY I DID OFFICER.
    My version.jpg
It then goes into the placky bag, I can then see when it requires disposal.
I've done away with most of the 5" hose from the fan to the "Cyclone", by raising the fan and connecting directly to the cyclone.
Still haven't gone the 6" conversion yet, but will do as soon as I get a chance.

just doing a bit of pondering about this...

is there any reason you couldn't use a filter bag as the media between the dust collector drum and a garbage bin? only down side i can see is that you might not be able to tell when the bin is full.

I had the dust go into two plastic bins, worked ok but not good.
As Bob said make sure you can see in.
Also (subject to being wrong ), I thought, due to lack of airtight sealing, it didn't provide enough back pressure to properly inflate the bags.
Also the wrinkles in getting the bags inside the bins limited the small cyclonic action seen in bottom bags.
Just this morning I changed back to two plastic bags. Boy was I fuming at the degree of difficulty.
For me the concept of doing away with changing bags is well worth the experimentation.
My previous post about Dust Deputy was all about avoiding changing bags.
I have an ex olive barrel chip interceptor with a recently installed spiral deflector hopefully directing the air flow down.
It also worked ok before the spiral deflector, but not good.
So fingers crossed about my modified chip collector.
I put the bags on so I can see the results while I ponder how to make dust disposal easier.
I also thought of the canvas skirt idea.
Maybe a permanently attached skirt no deeper than 100mm,
with a 20" bicycle wheel rim attached to the bottom of the skirt for the easier fitting of bags.
Dust bag band clamps not too exxy at Carbatec or Timbecon.

Maybe we need to collaborate and share ideas/progress.
I'm trying to get the most out of a less than best system simply because installing all the recommended requirements is not possible in my circumstances.
It would require significant brick and plaster wall work.

You get a lot for 2 cents here.
I'll share my progress, hoping other do also.
