Default Easy way to get dust extractor bottom bag on?

    Hello,

After spending over 4 hours a day travelling to and from a training course this week, I thought I deserved to short detour to Carbatec to pick up a long awaited dust extractor.

Does anyone have any tricks that will make installing the bottom plastic bag easier? I tried sticking it on with tape, then wrapping the steel band around that, but maybe there's still an easier way?

    Thanks,
    Nathan.

Nathan, my 2hp dusty blew a hole in the bottom bag yesterday (messy!).

I use about 4-6 rare earth magnets to hold it all in place, just a bit above the steel band, saves having 6 hands!

I held the bag in place with a few pieces of masking tape and then put the steel band on.
Mine was "leaking" dust at the top of the bag so I put a strip of self-adhesive foam around the metal. It is available at Bunnies for less than $2 a metre. It is about 20mm wide x 3mm thick.

Maybe make a big "rubber band" out of some of the elastic stuff they make occy straps out of, & put it around where the bag goes.

Work your way around the bag tucking it up under the rubber band.

I use packing tape, however it occurs to me that if you had a more cooperative family than I, another person to hold the bag tight whilst you did nup the band would make it a snap.

Roll up the top of the bag a little then stretch it around the shroud.

What Big Shed said... a handful of magnets.

Magnets I reckon, hot glue gun, get someone else to do it, coerce wife, partner etc to help or you will become violent. The last will happen anyway if you can't find an easy method.

I use masking tape. Also, vacuum out the inside of the top bag at the same time. Makes a BIG difference to suction.

I give the top bag a belt with a bit of timber at regular intervals. It is surprising hop much dust drops down.

I'm a magnet user as well.

I do like the idea [thanks Chesand] of the self adhesive foam as mine also has slight leaks around the top.

I agree with you about holes causing a mess big shed. my 2hp holed the other day and spat shavings all over the place when I wasnt paying attention. I changed the bag, cleaned up most of the mess then went and modified my cyclone so it doesnt suck hardly any of the shavings into the dust collector. Is much better now

As to putting on the bag, I used gumby's idea on his movie... bit of tape and works a treat

I have the pleated cartridge filter and it has a set of paddles built in, just run them around a few times and all the dust built up on the inside falls down.

Wouldn't go back to the bag on top.

Could you increase the dia of the shroud a little so the bags need to stretch too fit over.

The bags I use on my DE only just fit without stretching, I use "Poly Products Co. Pty Ltd" natural LDPE 1300x760mmX75um bags, they come on a 100 bag roll. I think they are biodegradable as they dont last longer than 2 weeks in the sun DAMHIKT!

They make them to order, starts about $200ish a roll, gets cheaper if you buy 2 or more rolls as its cheaper to make them by the batch.(part# 950038-0)

Adelaidians, should we do a forum buy up?
