Bobl, I tried the parting off blade but without the mdf inside and managed to launch the cap across my workshop.
yeah - been there several times.

The standard metal parting blade profile will be a problem as they will tend to dig in and catch as plastic needs a near zero or even negative rake.
A really good parting blade for plastic can be made from a hacksaw blade.
As well as being very narrow it can also be made thin so as it can cut a circle with minimal secondary cuts.
Here I'm using one to cut a teflon disc ~17mm OD.

    Great job!

I realize you're after a fully automated system but it irks me slightly that those rocker gates poke out so far when used on ducting along walls.
Rocker gates were designed to be used vertically on up and out of the way OH ducting where there is usually more wiggle room.
Standard sliding gates can be located hard up against a wall so they consume little more space than the diameter of any ducting however, they can't usually use a rocking action and need an alternative operating mechanism.
In this thread I show a prototype for a (curved) slider that uses a rocker action but doesn't poke out from walls like standard rocker.

Anyway should work great now go generate some sawdust

It is good to see the end result Andrew despite the few problems we had getting there. Well done and a credit to you!

From the same person who criticised me and later apologised after I posted the rocker gate concept here. I really do get irked when the idea that does not suit you but works all the same gets criticised. BTW I NO LONGER HAVE AN INVOLVEMENT IN AUTO BLAST GATES and this post reflects my own personal view.

I could have mounted the gates higher as I have a 2.7m stud, but I was forced by our council to install a 800mm deep wall half way along the workshop( can be seen to the left of the drill press) as they were concerned about the strength of the back wall, I stepped the drill press and bandsaw out from the wall to allow longer lengths of Timber etc, so the space behind it worked out ideal to fit the gates.

Yep - I'm happy to admit I originally poopooed rocker gates and then made dozens and implemented them extensively in a range of situations. However I did not in my previous post say they don't work work - why would I use something that doesn't work. What I did say was, up against walls they poke out a long way and there's no denying that. IMHO they also look ugly in that configuration and are also more likely to get bashed when moving stuff around in a shed. Using a slider blast gate against walls is a lot more sensible.

Looks great Andrew. Looks like a really well set up workshop too.

OK, but why nit pick an installation that a lot of thought and expense has gone into, your dislike of what Andrew has done is only that, nit picking for no good reason or gain. If it was a technical performance issue then some CONSTRUCTIVE advise would be warranted. You have a long record of this and have angered many people by such behaviour which is a shame as your knowledge has advanced DE a lot over the last decade and I am the first person to commend you on what you contribute.

    Andrew,

Your setup looks really good. Congratulations. Most of us seem to settle for halfway but you’ve really nailed it!

    Regards,

I'll stand by my contributions on what I have written on these forums - if it occasionally rubs people up the wrong way so be it. I or others can always go elsewhere.

In my posts I have only repeated what a LOT of people have said to me over the years. When someone like Andrew puts up pictures of an excellent installation comment is always welcome but you went further than that and could not resist nit picking for no good reason except it irked you. If it had technical issues fair enough but if it did not then what suits him has nothing to do with you or me or anyone else.

    Wow, Andrew!

Looks very flash indeed. I'll bet it works wonderfully, too.
