We all come from different walks and Bob's feedback is constructive, possibly not in Andrew's or your workshop, but for those that work in relatively small workshops having things stick out is an issue. Yes from a technical point of view it doesn't cause an issue on the DE flow, but in my experience blast gates that stick out are asking to be broken. I've snapped blast gates in half as they've been snagged by long pieces of timber that i was moving around. Being forced to fix a broken blast gate mid project is no fun and is worth a mention (esp for those that have small/cramped working areas).
Well done on your setup Andrew, love how clean and well spaced setup.

I totally agree but nit picking just to have a say is not constructive and Bob's response was just that. I have never heard anyone have the problem you outline but there is always something new in life and I will keep it in mind. BTW, how many blast gates have you broken and what were they made of?

Here’s a few more photos Tonyz
I managed to find heap of the 150mm duct brackets second hand, and I butchered a few to make some brackets
I don’t really have any metalwork gear

I've broken two, one was made from chipboard and another out of plywood.
My issue is I've got a fairly low ceiling so having 6"ducting hanging off them doesn't exactly leave alot of wiggle room. On one occasion was carrying a 3.5m length of reclaimed jarrah into the workshop, whilst trying to avoid bashing into the light fittings i bumped into the slider and snapped the slider on the opening side.
Another occasion was carrying a full sheet of 3/4" plywood into the workshop similar series of events but different blastgate.

Most of my duct work and gates are up above the bottom of the trusses, so they are pretty well protected

Very nice job Andrew. You should be proud of it.
How many auto blast gates have you used?

Mines nothing like as nice (especially as tidy) as Andrew's but the best expression I got when a visitor walked into my shed was " is going on in here?"
Andrew you are going to need a sign like this one

Hi Andrew, nice job with your extraction setup! In the interests of constructive criticism, it looks like that 45deg junction behind and just to the left of your drill press is oriented such that the airflow to the dust extractor needs to make a sharp 135-deg bend. As I understand it, the smaller angles the better and if that junction were oriented the other way around and higher up then the air wouldn't need to go around such a sharp bend. Bit of a hassle to change it now though. Otherwise, a very impressive job, well done!

Ah, sorry, I thought the airflow went up into the ceiling. All good then.

I got the belt/disc sander connected and the run through to the scroll saw finished over the weekend, so that’s everything connected. I think I will need to have a better look at the extraction side of the scroll saw.
I thought I had ordered the wrong 90 bend at first, but it turns out my supplier no longer seems to stock the 2r bends, only 1r, at least all of my other 90’s are 2r
