Default Getting my dust extraction setup

Hi Everyone, Iím just getting started on the dust extraction in my shed, probably a dumb question, but what is the best way to connect 100mm pipe to my bandsaw, it has 2 ports that are about 90-95mm

    Cheers
    Andrew

My 18" bandsaw had so called 4" outlets.
Here I have removed the outlet and am cutting to just under the size of a 4" BMH. I have left 4 tabs to screw onto as shown in second photo.

That certainly gave me some ideas thanks Bob, Iím not sure if I have room to put a port in there on the bandsaw Flintlock, I will need to get the tape measure out and see what I can work out.

I might have to try and make some Bell Mouths with MDF and a round over bit as I donít have access to a lathe.

This is how i've made my bell mouths, it doesn't have to be perfect, just needs to reduce turbulence as air enters the duct, you'll also need to consider how much air can be physically drawn into your bandsaw, as what comes in is what comes out. So either consider adding additional "inlets" in the bandcase case or add additional ducts elsewhere. I choose to add an overhead duct rather than drilling holes into bandsaw.

This is the vent I put in the bottom door to allow good airflow.

Those ports are the same as mine.

Step one: remove the cross hair filter from the lower post - those cross cars reduce air flow by some 20%.

Step two: The higher up port does next to nothing - you can keep using it provided you also . . .

Step 3: Add under table extraction eg something like this

Step 4: put a vent in the door so air and dust can escape the lower cabinet - something like this

Step 5: Reverse the throat plate so the slot is behind the blade.

I was going to run my system with a DC7, is it worth going to a Taiwanese 3hp 3ph unit with a 13Ē impeller ?

Yes it is - especially if you can implement a VFD to enable you to spin the 3P motor At 60Hz.

If you have 3P power you will need a 3P to 3P VFD
If you only have 240V you will need a 240V to 3P VFD and the motor must be able to be converted to what is called a 240V DELTA (∆) connection.

here's my WIP on doing this.

I had 3 phase run to my shed when we built it, it was quite reasonable to have it hooked up as we already had the cable running from the road to the meter box, I will look into. VFD
