Getting zapped by static from hose

I put some machines on wheels converted them to 150mm. I have noticed that I get zapped when I remove the hose to push the machine out of the way. So from the PVC piping it goes to a hose, which is attached to a PETG DIY magnetic coupler which is connected to another PETG magnetic coupler on the machine side, which is connected so PVC which is attached to the metal of the machine.

Im pretty sure previously I never really got zapped. Also, these machines are now rolling on yellow tongue when previously they were on concrete sitting on dirt - not sure if that changes anything?

So... Is there static because hose isnt attached directly to the metal bit of the machine? Is there an easy way to not get zapped when removing the hose? I saw some youtube videos of people running copper wire around their ducts/plumbing but I dont really want to do that.

The copper wire wound around the ducting is supposedly done to reduce the chance of a spark from static electricity inside the ducting that might cause a fire in the fine dust cloud. As I understand it, there is no evidence that it prevents that from happening.

The most likely source of a fire/explosion inside ducting is from a piece of red hot metal or smouldering wood being drawn in.

If you were to connect your ducting to your solar inverter you might reduce how often you get zapped and generate a few extra kWh a year to export...

If your hose has the wire reinforcing in it ground to it. The plastics are insulators and don't conduct electricity. Wrapping a wire around may not be effective per this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yA22kTtV4XI

In my "web travels" I have come across static dissipating coatings and finishes, often used in computer lab floors and benches etc, that might work on a PVC duct system but probably not flexible for use on a hose. This is a product that is made in the US and sold here. Perhaps they have a seller down under or you can find an equivalent.

G'day had the same problem was really pissing me off.so what i did was tied a piece of cooper wire
around the hose[about 4ft] with a bolt on the end sitting on the floor .
never been a problem since

This, for what it’s worth my Ryobi double insulated shopvac has a light chain dangling from the base to the floor which I assume is for this purpose.

Even the little Ozito that we bought for out men's shed has that dangling down to the floor.
