GMC DC improvements
Here are a few pics of what I have done with my 1HP $99 GMC DC.
I have fitted the castor base to a plastic 44 gallon drum.
Cut off and inverted the top of the drum to give me a removeable top.
Replaced the original intake of the DC with a 100mm PVC inspection port to allow the fitting of 100mm pipe. (the original was only about 90mm).
It works well, is quiet, mobile, and I have no dust in the bag as yet with the drum about 1/3 full.

Nice work Jack
If I do not clearly express what I mean, it is either for the reason that having no conversational powers, I cannot express what I mean, or that having no meaning, I do not mean what I fail to express. Which, to the best of my belief, is not the case.

Thanks guys.
It is not hooked up to anything at the moment.
It will either go on the TSC10HB or swap between my thicknesser and jointer.
Due to workshop layout it will more than likely go on the thicknesser and jointer and my 2HP DC will be on the TSC10HB.

I'm about to copy your improvements Jack.
Just purchased the DC.
Have a few drums to use.
Question
How do you hold the lid on air tight?
Normally there is a lock ring.
Also the hose with the DC looks like crap, any thoughts?
Thanks

Great innovation Jack. You may even have a bit of a cyclone going there.
Bit of imagination and a bit of work and the $99 cheapo probably works as well, or better, than the 'name' brands.

I thought about securing the lid somehow but it seems to stay there all by itself.
I was going to use three of those elastic straps as used to hold torneau covers on utes.
I would suggest replacing the hose, I am using the one which comes in the Carbatec DC kit.

Jack great work, I have a 2hp DC which stays in one half of the shed to work on the jointer / thicknesser and never got around to going the full ducting route. Maybe this could solve my problem of being too lazy to drag the thing over to SCMS / TS / router table etc... have a couple of those Carbatec hoses left over too. At $99 it sounds feasible.
Like others interested in how well it does, can you let us know ?
Good stuff though.

Any of the needle point bags from CarbaTimbeHare&Leda et al. will be a better bag.
But perhaps your Mum can probably make something better up as well.
By the by, I've done a slightly different version of Jack's mod. Mine is based on a slab of yellow tongue sitting over a wheelie bin, DC sits on the slab, two 90mm PVC pipes go through the slab - works a treat!! And easy to disassemble and empty.Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Hi SBD,
I was wondering - do you have any pictures? - Of your DC set up that is??
I was always get so bewildered when I go to the toy shop and I am looking for PVC connectors etc, I can never tell if they are going to fit etc. + it's quite awkward walking around the shop with the DC over your shoulder.
Are you using stormwater fittings??
Thanks heaps!Cheers,

No pics, sorry. Is fairly straight forward regardless.
You'll need about a metre of 90mm PVC stormwater pipe, two 90mm elbows and a rubber joiner (a black rubber cuff with a hose clamp in either end) plus a pot of blue pipe cement (mine isn't glued though) and some silicon to seal the gap between pipe and slab. You could use a short section of dust hose and a couple of hose clamps instead of the rubber joiner.Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Hi SBD,
thanks for that! The storm water 90mm stuf is relatively cheap so I will give that a go! Just got find a suitable container! Wheelie bins retail for around $90, so I will be looking for a smaller (read cheaper) option.
Thanks again!Cheers,
