OK, the easy bit first, it’s 125mm hose. As I mentioned previously, I don’t believe it is possible or there is any point in using 150mm hose if you wish to connect to the blade chute, there are unavoidable restrictions that means I am not making full use of the 125mm capacity, going bigger would prove nothing as far as I can see. If you made some sort of a funnel or collection chamber that sat below the blade chute but was not attached, and you were just directing the sawdust from the blade chute to the funnel then a 150mm pipe could be used. That could be a viable option that had crossed my mind, but as I have no 150mm hose and it’s a six hour round trip to buy some I didn’t go that way.

I repeated the 5 cut method not to check for square but to compare the sawdust left on the table as that’s what I did the first time. As for Sam’s method, as far as I can see from his video it requires more material, so more expense, would take longer and be less accurate. Maybe I am missing something but I just don’t get it. I am happy to stick with the 5 cut method for now.

As to what I did. I will try and explain.

the chute can’t be extended down or to the left as it will foul the cabinet on full tilt. It can’t be extended towards the back of the machine as it will foul on the motor and also the internal rib on the cabinet when on full tilt. It can’t be extended to the right due to the raise and tilt mechanism being in the way, well I guess I sort of went a bit to the right with the oval outlet, but it’s that shape so it doesn’t foul anything. So that leaves towards the front of the machine. If you look at the sideways picture below and look at the tab at the bottom of the picture, picture the line of the Chute to the left of the tab continuing straight to the right, that’s how it used to look. So i added that little triangle section, there used to be another mounting tab there that had to be deleted. I shortened the side facing up in the picture to get the oval ring on at roughly 45 degrees.

I hope that that makes some sense. I went through various combinations only to find them fouling on something and then cutting them off and starting again, so it was a very long way round to get to this end result.

    cheers Andrew

I’ve had a B3l for a few years and have always been appalled by the dust connection.recently the hose fell off again, at the beginning of 4 hours of planned machine use.

That did it for me. Off to the plumbing shop to make an alternative.. 150 x 90 to 90mm round adaptor and a 45deg bend. A bit of minor surgery and a couple of wafer head screws gave me something to attach a round hose to.

A fitness for use argument springs to mind to mind but we shall leave that alone.

Worked for for a while till I tilted the blade to 45 degrees and it interfered with the saw housing. Another go brought a result that uses the full range without any interference. So I took the proof of concept around to the local sheet metal mob to get one made. Works a treat and has a bucket of scope for improvement, like 125mm all the way to the blade.

ill put a photo up soon

A thread dredge, I installed a new hose on mine a few months ago and it has ripped already due to the appalling way the hose attaches to the blade shroud. Bevan, can you point me to the fittings you used or photos of what you came up with?
