    Default Whose a happy chappy

After months/years of procrastinating and not being happy with shed layout and old table saw, I realised things had to change.
the old table saw went to scrap metal, new Carbatec cabinet in, bugger motor is on other side of saw, *#@*(&% lets redesign the shed, (big sigh and raised eyebrows from wife) but that I did.
At 73 and still working part time and with caring (with wife) for our adult disabled son, grabbing lots of information and ideas from this beautiful forum its been a long haul and Iam only part way through.
But the dust system on the table saw WORKS, after 2 hours of plywood, MDF and crapiarta pine only a sniff of dust on the table there is more fine tuning to come but the yelling of joy brought the tradesmen working nearby running,

The run from Y above the saw to the next one is 3.3M.
The pic of the 2HP dusty outside is one of the joys of no neighbours, I suspect the lack of filter or bag helps in performance, the other air hose coming out is the laser cutter air blower.

to clarify, the dust on the table was from hand sending, the old Festool needs a new velcro head,
pic 3 the second down pipe goes to a manual floor vacuum,
pic 4, very bottom of pic is from table saw, acroos the back wall left to right....from lathe, 2nd floor vacuum, heading outside to dusty, coming up other wall to SCMS, Drill press area and band saw all to be finished.

The white box in pic 4 is water chill unit for the laser cutter,

you seen something like it John, thanks for all your advice. Was a little trial n error but I got there, need to adjust the perspex arms a little, bigger knobs for adjusting will also help.
If I can find a piece of flat thread (as in a drill press) I will insert that into the vertical timber leg again for adjusting it easier.

The same goes for everybody on this amazing forum, we may not always agree or like what they say but we can always learn something

    That's the truth, Tonyz.

This place is astonishing sometimes. There are so many who are always ready to help. It was here I learned about wood movement, veneering, dust collection and a host of other aspects.

Thanks for showing your setup Tony. Yes this forum and the people on here are a wealth of great knowledge, ideas and support.

Examining the design your overhead hood, I notice the rear end is open. I've not seen this approach before, is that to allow enough new air to enter? If this was closed off (e.g covered by plastic housing down to the near table much like the sides/front) would that stifle airflow and reduce dust extraction effectiveness? I realise I might be over thinking this, I was just curious if this was due to conscious design through experience, and you saw an improvement over an earlier design?

    Enjoy the new setup.
    Cheers,
    Simon

Yeah Simon, your on the money, strange though put your hand over the rear gap and you dont feel any suction, until you lower the 'thing' to the table but then you cannot slide timber through,
Overall though no dust or maybe minimal is a win for me, at this stage maybe down the track I might alter it but .... hey it works

I would not have realised that suction could be that much to resist the wood sliding under! Will try this, building one soon. Thanks for the info

Mine is alike. Originally made it with a piece of polycarbonate blocking the rear. Suction improved a lot when I removed it because airflow improved.
