Hi guys has anyone got experience with the Harvey G700 dust cyclone. I have seen a couple on YouTube and wondered if anyone is using one.

Hi Derek, so far no replies. They look impressive and YouTube makes them sound impressive.

i have been using one for about four months now ... i considered a clearview as an alternative but decided against that for a few reasons ... i replaced a generic 2hp dust extractor

i figure that the dust extractor needs to be able to do two things ... clear the machine so that it doesn't clog and keep dust out of the air ... the generic was only reasonable at the first but hopeless at the second

i originally set aside some money to run some ducting in the shed but eventually rearranged the shed so that it is easy to use short runs of hose to connect machinery

i connect to a hammer a331 combination planer/thicknesser, hammer n4440 bandsaw, laguna fusion tablesaw as well to lesser machinery

the gyroair does a good job of collecting chips .. it has considerably more suction than the generic had .. the thicknesser needs a transition (which i am getting made to take full advantage of the potential hose size) to improve it further and the tablesaw still spits a bit of dust out the top ... i also use a 4inch tee with 2inch outlet to run a hose to a magnetic dust chute (veritas 05j2110) for the bandsaw and tablesaw which works very well on the bandsaw and improves the tablesaw a bit ... i am not expert like some of you guys but i would guess that any dust that gets collected stays in the machine .. i am not aware of any escaping from it (incidentally i set up a four inch suction behind the kapex and its quite good dust extraction is now pretty well perfect)

if you have seen it on youtube then you would know that it is quite easily moved around (although i have now set up my shed so that it needs minimal movement)
the company claims that it is very quiet and youtube videos suggest the same, however i wouldn't run it by itself without hearing protection as i think it is quite noisy (no worse than my old one but no better either) .. to me this is no big deal as i wouldn't be using most of the machines without hearing protection (the exception there is the lathe)
you would also be aware that it takes about 15 seconds to get going to full capacity .. again for me no problem as i keep the remote control in ONE place (so i don't forget where i put it) and by the time a walk back to a machine the air is going strongly but for a professional shop the time may be a problem
i have emptied the bins a couple of times and it is an easy job (considerably easier than the generic) ... cleaning the final filters is also easy but i didn't think first time and had the extractor running as i took off the first cap ... it, of course, blew the dust out strongly before i could get a hose near it .. you need to stop and start the machine to clear the filters
the instructions for it are fine although the description for getting it off the pallet includes slinging it and using your forklift as a crane .. my wife, neighbour and myself managed to get it off quite easily .. a fourth person would have helped although more for balance than for strength required

for my particular situation i think it is the perfect solution but maybe not for professional situations

happy to answer questions by pm if you have any

    regards david

Hi David and thank you for taking the time to reply. It is interesting that you consider the machine no quieter than other dust collecting machines. But, like you I wear ear muffs pretty much all the time when I fire up saws or whatever.
The general build quality of the machine I have seen on YouTube makes it look pretty good as well. In one of the YouTube clips I noticed the manufacturer seemed very keen that the ductwork had no leaks along the way. At 1100 cfm I know there is little room for inefficiency of extraction. Anyway as said David thanks for taking the time to reply.

be interesting to see how much closer to the 1100cfm you could get with a 6" hose considering its drops down to 700cfm with a 4". considering it comes with a 6" connection.

doesn't come cheap though, at $5000
