Just bought the vacuum from the bloke on eBay, now I have to wait. Talked SMBO into it easy enough - I think she was expecting me to say it cost megabucks not $90 so

I wasn't able to find an Aldi vac in any of their Sydney stores so after a good report from Aussie I ordered one on eBay a few weeks back - ordered it on Thursday - it was delivered on Monday for $90 - Brilliant!
I've given it a real workout over the past few weeks and it's had no trouble at all with anything I've thrown at it. I picked up some Shop-Vac filter bags (as per Groggy's excellent suggestion) and so far the filter has stayed remarkably clean.
It's been one of the best new additions to my shed for a while.
Thanks again Aussie for the tip on the eBay units
Cheers,
Geoff

Bit more info for these in case anyone is still looking.
The main inlet/outlet sizes are 58mm, so a standard tapered hose from 56-58mm will fit like the proverbial glove.
The unit comes with a step-down adaptor from 58mm to 38mm as standard, the hose it comes with is 38mm.
BTW, a few months later and I am still wrapped in this tool. Going very well, still on my second dust bag (where does it all go ).Last edited by DJ’s Timber; 29th September 2008 at 08:16 PM. Reason: restore

No, no, no. That's not right, Groggy! You're supposed to say that it's not what you wanted, so that I can snag it off you for the cost of delivery.
Actually, I only just spotted Waldo's today and now I'm going to have to buy one just to appease the green-eyed demon perched on my shoulder...

It's a noisy beast, but it makes a heck of a difference with the amount of dust it catches. Hooked up to the Metabo Duo not a scrap of dust is missed.
A very worthwhile investment.

Just bought one after Groggy gave me some details on hose sizes (has to fit the Wonderfence on my Incra - 58mm).
Had to replace my Shopvac after I burned the paper filter in it (don't ask-vacuumed out the wood heater door and caught a small red coal). Filled the lounge room with smoke and wood dust, I wasn't exactly popular.
Anyway went to the Big B to replace the paper filter cartridge, not at $56 I won't.
As my Shopvac hasn't got a power outlet I thought this would be a good time to get one of these.

Finally received my unit this afternoon, there have been a few communication problems with the vendor with emails/Ebay messages apparently going AWOL.
Got a phone call last Friday from the company trying to sort delivery out. He apologosed profusely and gave me refund of the $20 delivery fee, as well as sending out a new vacuum rather than the reconditioned one I ordered.
So, long story short, I have a brand new Taurus vacuum cleaner delivered to Bendigo for a total cost of $40! Got to be happy with that, good to see companies that are still interested in sorting out a problem and putting money where their mouth is.
What a beaut vacuum, I can see why you were impressed Groggy, now to the big B for some of those bags..............

You've had me thinking about this Les. Over the last few weeks I have been using the machine a lot to clean slate tiles. I had to get all the dust up before putting the sealer on and I noticed the vac with the floor head did a really good job of sucking up the cement and grout dust. because there was no furniture and the windows and doors were open I could see suspended dust in the air in the sunlight. I aimed the exhaust toward that area and there was no more dust visible than before.
I think the reason it seems to last so long is that when I was using my old Karcher machine the filter always filled up long before the canister, so I would have to shake and bang out the filter two or three times a day under constant use. The bag on this vac has a much larger surface area and allows the dust to fall to the bottom of the bag when switched off,
So, short version is the vac does not let the dust out, it just does not clog up anywhere near as often, therefore allowing the vac to be emptied only when the bag is near full, instead of when the filter gets clagged up.
Note: before anyone points out the obvious, the "invisible" and harmful dust (1 - 0.4 micron) is probably still escaping. But that was the case on the Karcher unit too. Neither tool is spec'd to do that, or expected to. You need something like the festool machines to get that really fine dust out of the air.
