    Question Help with 2HP dusty ducting layout

    Hi all. I've been doing a lot of reading of the literature about proper dust extraction (here and from Bill Pentz), and I think I've distilled all the details down into a dust collection solution that will suit me. Hoping to get some feedback on my plan and answer a few burning questions I have, before I cut a hole in my shed wall and irreversibly hack into my brand new planer thicknesser

    My shed is a 6x6m double lockup. I park a car in there during the week, hence why one side is relatively empty. I'm generally creating sawdust on the weekends for a couple of hours at a time, and occasionally mid-week for an hour or so.

    I have a 2HP Carbatec DC with a pleated filter, which I'm planning to modify as per the thread in this forum and locate in an enclosure outside the shed. I then want to run 6" ducting to my 2 main dust producing machines - table saw and planer thicknesser.

    I've attached a drawing of my proposed ducting layout. There's about 4m of horizontal run, plus ~1m of vertical ducting at both end. So my longest run is about 6m of 6" ducting with 4x 90 degree elbows. I'll be using DWV elbows, with blast gates just after the Y-split, so only 1 machine will be in use at a time.

    My table saw is a SawStop contractor. I plan to enclose the underside of the stand to better capture dust and run a duct there. I may split the 6" duct into 2x 4" ducts, one for the enclosed stand and one for capturing dust over the blade.

    My planer thicknesser is a Carbatec TJ-X250C which has a 4" dust port. I'm not sure what to do with this one...I could potentially modify the dust port to enlarge it, but I have little metalworking tools or ability so I'm not sure how I'd go with it! Or if it's even worthwhile?

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Can a modified 2HP dusty adequately extract dust through ~6m of 6" duct, with max 4x DWV elbows?
    2. If not, should I save myself the trouble of modifying the dusty and instead run 4" ducting + get a couple of bathroom extractor fans for fine dust?
    3. Is there any point modifying my planer thicknesser dust port? Or is this thing just doomed to have poor dust extraction?
    4. Any other tips or suggestions?

    2. The simple answer is heat up a short length of 150mm pipe and push it over the existing metal dust chute. It will form to the metal shape. Mark the pipe shape onto the metal and remove pipe. Cut metal about 25mm longer than mark. Replace pipe and attach with pop rivets or self tappers and a bit of sealer.
    3. Job done
