In terms of 3HP I would avoid teh 40 year old designs that have the impeller motor at floor level and a curly rectangular duct that goes up to the bag housing.

The better designs for 3HP have the motor and impeller attached direct to the bag housing.
Currently the woodfast DC5000 looks like the best deal
Woodfast Machinery Co. (Aust.) Pty. Ltd. -
It has an an 8" inlet which you can utilize if you can afford the ducting

Also on the same page note the way their 2HP has the motor attached direct to the bag housing and a 150 mm inlet just like the modified generic 2HP.

In both cases divide the rated CFM by about 2 for a true reading

This is the one I have. Carba-Tec Industrial Twin Bag 3hp Dust Collector : CARBA-TEC.
It also comes with a 3 phase motor for the same price so a VSD could be added to spin it up to 60 Hz which will increase the flow by about 20%.

There is at least one more of this design that someone posted a link to but I cannot remember what it was.
I think it was called Woodman but I can find details about it on the web

I do like the woodfast DC5000, big footprint, but i maybe able to put it into the garden shed next to the big shed (if there is room) and its local. As for the carbatec one its a bit pricey for what you get really.
I think the 8" ducting is a bit of overkill for what i need it to do, but ill be defiantly running 6", hope it doesn't restrict it too much.

There are some design differences that are really worth thinking about but whether they're worth the $500 is debatable.
If you could go the 3phase route it would definitely be worth it.
The Carbatec filter and bag clamping system is also much better. It does not use clamps on the outside of the housing but thick plastic rings on the inside so the pressure inside the bag forces the bags onto the housing. This really reduces leaks but if you put the DC outside they should be much less of a problem
I was lucky to get mine on special for $1000.
