Default How big a hole to vent a DC located inside the shed to the outside?

After much reading it seems sufficient dust collection comes down to two things: enough CFM at the machine, and venting straight outside (I think...)

In trying to tackle the "vent outside bit", I'm looking at where I can position my DC outside and I'm not sure I can make it happen.

So I'm wondering if it is possible/sensible to build an airtight enclosure inside the shed that the DC lives in, and then have an opening from within that enclosure to outside the shed? Eg: build a wooden box that is well sealed at all joins. Intake for DC is through a hole, also sealed. And then to vent outside, an outlet pipe from the box to the shed wall.

What does everyone think? And if it's a reasonable idea, what size should the hole from box to wall be in order to not impact the performance of the DC? I think the answer is simply equal or bigger than the intake? But maybe it's a little more complex than that?

(By way of background, if I don't have to spend extra on pleated filters, etc, then that's a plus!)

are you venting all the dust/chips outside? or will it still be going into a bin?

Yeah sorry didn't explain very well.

If no venting outside, then I would get a DC with cyclone and pleat filter.

But if I can vent outside, then I think I can put a single stage with filter bag inside a sealed box and then vent the box outside.

I have never used a DC before but I imagine most big stuff would end up in the clear bag in the DC?

this is generally considered the best way to do it, just means any leaks etc on the DC should be contained in your box or vented outside and not in the shed.

just make sure you give your self some decent access to change the bag/filter, if you make it too much of a pain in the to do you'll avoid doing it. As for the hole size I'm pretty sure double the intake is also considered ok.
