Default Kinchrome Wet/Dry vacuums at AutObarn

Have just received the latest autObarn catalogue...actually it is a kinchrome catalogue...there is a series of Kinchrome wet and dry vacuums...
    20L 1200W = $99
    30L 1200W + 240V power outlet = $149
    60L 1200W + 240V power outlet = $289
    80L 2200W + 240V power outlet = $429
All with stainless steel tanks + usual accessories
Has anyone got any comments on these units?
Are they any good and better than the Aldi units?

    Cheers,
    Mark

The Aldi vac has a power take off that you plug your power tools into and when you use the tool it turns the vac on, when you turn the tool off the vac turns off 15-20 seconds latter.

This is the feature as well as the price is what makes the Aldi vac popular on this forum.

If you are thinking of the last two I would suggest investing in a proper dust collector and locate the DC outside the shed.

Also check how much noise they make.

Cheapies can sometimes make too much to be comfortable for continuous use.

PS wet and dry jobs are also top heavy and won't be dragged thru the debris on a workshop floor without tipping, & std size vac hoses clog readily with modest size shavings

    G'day Mark,
Having gone down the path of vacuum cleaner powered dust extraction, my advice is - Don't. I got an Ozito Shed Vac for $99 from Bunnings and bought a Dust Deputy cyclone to connect to my mitre saw, and planned to connect it to the old table saw, as well as small tools like the jigsaw and router.

One of the really annoying things is trying to get adaptors so that one pipe can fit into something else, and I am not sure that the vac would cope all that well if I was cutting a long board on the sawbench. There doesn't seem to be any standardisation in sizes of pipes and fittings between vacs and proper dust collectors.

So I bought a Sherwood at Timbecon. The model is the FM 110.
Catalogue - Safety - Dust Extractors
I had to adapt my old sawbench which didn't have any extraction at all. I tried it today and it really works and is surprisingly quiet. I will connect it through the Dust Deputy tomorrow.

The impression I have gained from this forum is the vacuum cleaners are very good at picking up crap off the floor, and dust collectors are good at - collecting dust. And given the price of the Sherwood it is a steal compared to some of the vacs you have priced.

    Good luck.

Shop vacs suit hand-held power tools.

ps, even then with something like a planer you have to go slow to prevent clogging

i think this one is better
it has a 5 micron filtration bad instead of a 30 micron bag and i think more capacity and they are the same price
    Carba-Tec 1hp Economy Extractor : CARBA-TEC
i would go with this one

Hi Harrison , I got myself the extractor I mentioned in my first post ( I went to Carba-tec before getting your reply). After talking to the crew at Carba-Tec it turns out both units have the same motor and impellor system and can be interchanged. If at some time in the future I need the better filtration or larger collection I won’t need to purchase everything again.
