    I think you'll find that's a Clearvue.

Those are ugly looking welds with stress risers. They are ideal locations for cracks to start and run. I can not believe you have such poor welds on an impeller.

Note: my opinion is based on my experiences as a Metalllurgist.

Not my Impeller. Mine has no welds and looks like this.

Impellers are unobtainable from CV and I am having to have one made for a one off job which I expect it to be finished this week. The main problem is the taper lock used by CV is unobtanium world wide and we are making our own as luckily I have an original sample to copy from.

Yesterday the guys heard from CV and they said they will supply one from the US for $1400.

I was told a week ago it was not going to happen. My inquiries here to Baldor resulted in none available anywhere and nothing expected any time soon but you already have a taper lock so maybe that changed their minds about supplying one. CV stopped supply of impellers some time ago and it is obvious now why that was done.

At that price tag I'd be exploring a rehab locally by replacing the blades if the backing plate hasn't also been bent. Not that I could do any on that myself but a local engineering workshop might do it at a 'community service' price.

Something along the lines of cutting off the existing blades, re-machining the back plate flat, rolling new blades, weld/bolting/rivet on replacement blades and re-balancing. At least they already have the taper lock to fit the CV shaft.

Are the CV taper locks something special? There seems to be a lot of companies selling a wide range of taper locks in Australia

Bob, can you have a look at the underneath of the damaged impeller and see if it has a full weld or is it segment welded? If anyone is interested in having an impeller made let me know. No prices at the moment but the lead time will be at least a month. I must make this clear up front, this has nothing to do with ABG, it is purely a personal project.

I think it’s highly unlikely metal fatigue would strike four consecutive blades at the same time. The propagation of the cracks appears to be very similar too. I’m going with impact damage.

So did they get this sorted? Not ideal to have a major part of a large de system fail/get damaged and not be replaceable.

I believe they were going to attempt a repair but on closer inspection they found several other cracks and deemed it not worth the trouble.

    Here is one.

I'm not sure what they are planning next.

Any idea whether those are new cracks (occurring at the same time as the blade failures) or older cracks? It looks like there may be paint in that crack shown - but hard to be sure.

I installed the impeller in 2016? and I went over it pretty thoroughly and would have seen something that big if it was there.
