I just use 6 cheap magnets from the $2 shop, hold bag under the DC, put on 6 magnets one by one around the circumference and above where the band goes, put on metal retaining band, hey presto, takes less than 1 minute.
I am still on my first lot of 10 clear plastic bags that came with the DC, I think I broke one so far, mysteriously got a cut in it. Didn't want to stuff around with taping it up. To replace they cost $15 for 10, I think I can afford that!

Going OK for an old guy, Jake.
And yes, getting the bags back on is always a hassle for me too. Seems my arms aren't quite long enough or something. I always manage to get the bag three quarters of the way around the drum, all the while trying to manipulate my fingers around the vertical support arms like some sort of demented piano player attempting Rachmaninoff Concerto #3, only to have it slip off at the back every time.
Of course, I've never thought of Pusser's tape or Big Shed's magnets - much too sensible - up until now! Once the bag's on the drum it stays there OK, and the spring loaded retaining bands are the way to go - I thought they all came with these?
Steve from the Lumber Bunker went throught the whole workshop layout, dust extraction setup dramas when he moved into his new premises recently. Maybe he's got some ideas, although Forunna's link seems interesting too.
I'm also a bit fascinated by these Cyclone Dust Extractors versus the standard drum type. Something else to research when I've got nothing to do. Good luck with the new shed. Bloody builders - hard to find a good one like me.
How's the #10 Stanley going BTW? I've decided to sell my #10 and #10 1/2 - just don't seem to use them, I'm afraid. I can maybe put the cash towards a Room Air Filter.Don't Just Do It.... Do It HardenFast!!

thanks kindly for all the ideas.
demented piano player ! .....yep.
I couldn't get Forunnas link going. some computer problem I don't understand. I'll stick with bits of paper. Its working, just finding it hard to know where I won't things. so many options. Think I'll just keep things as modula as possible. I'll no doubt change my mind on where things sit.
maybe I should just get a cyclone. I don't know. Feel I've asked so many questions on dust extraction I'd be pushing it if I started another thread.
I got myself a #10. But its a modern one, and doesn't work as well. Its adequate, but prefer an older one........how much are you after for your 10 ?

to get the bottom bag off and on quickly, get one of those hose clamps that will fit the bottom flange, double the last two inches of your bag over, then slide clamp inside the turn over, cut a small hole to make the screw accessible, then tape the rest up with duct tape, now your ready to put it on,usually takes me less than a minute to put the bottom bag on and tighten.............bob

Plastic bag held on with magnets - keeps it in position while I do up the retainer.
Only got 4 uses out of the original plastic bag - don't turn around with a "short" length of timber in your hands and barely touch the plastic bag while the extractor is going - DAMHIK -- My bottom bag now has half way up support as it is housed in a large plastic rubbish bin.

Fred a very simple idea, beats the sh*&t out of struggling to hold in place with one hand putting the band up with the other 2 hands and tightening the clip. (Hang on how many hands is that - no wonder it is difficult)
ow to source 6 magnets.
Have a greenie.
I am on the second plastic bag - the first lasted 6 months, had duct tape over holes and then turned inside out but still did the job. at 10 for $15 they are cheap.
BTW i dont have a pleated cartridge but wish i had purchased one with the DC
cheersregards

apricottripper check out this site for some dust extraction tips. Even if you don't go down the path of the cyclone (immediatley) it has a wealth of knowledge - I am still trying to digest it all but it is the most comprehensive and well researched stuff I have come across!
I would try to locate the extractor outside for two main reasons 1.less fine dust in the workshop environment, 2. Less noise from the extractor motor.
check this out when you have time!

good luck with the workshop
