Pleated Filter Cartridges
Which make of Pleated Filter Cartridge would you recommend, the one sold by Carba-tec or the one sold by Timbercon?
I have a 2 hp dusty from Carba-tec, which is no doubt a generic machine. Having said this I have always felt that the equipment from Carba-tec was the better of the two. Perhaps it is the colour
Still, Timbercon (selling as Sherwood) have a sale on the 6th and 7th December, and the Pleated Filter Cartridges are $375 with a size of 500x1220mm . The price at Carba-tec is $299 but the size is 500 X 600mm.
What should I be looking for? In size and quality?

Hi Derek, looks like Carbatec has dropped their price to $229. All things being equal, I would go with the biggest filter that will fit under your ceiling. In terms of material, it seems that a non-woven fabric is superior to paper. Here's a little blurb from Gregory Machinery who supplied my two filters.

The dust extraction engineer at Gregory is a very friendly and knowledgable fellow (can't remember his name) but you might call and ask to speak to him about filters.
Cheers

Hi Derek,
one advantage in having a longer filter cannister is that as the bag reaches full capacity the inflowing air tends to stir its contents raising the coarser dust and thereby reduces the filter efficiency, particulary at its lower end. So, you would expect a taller or longer filter to maintain its efficiency longer. When I inspect my 600 mm filter cannister, you can see where the dust collects on the inside. I have a way of monitoring when it's time to give the filter a clean and note that I clean the filter more as the bag fills.

Zelk

Call me precious, but not acknowledging a reply to your post when you've clearly been online is just plain rude. And I think others agree.

I'm not sure what you are expecting. Thanking each respondent after every reply seems a bit much.
Your link was interesting, but not really helpful. I was seeking specific information as I wanted to take advantage of the sale at Timbercon on the 6th and 7th. Which has now passed. Contributions after the 7th don't count.
I received one PM that was specific (and replied personally), and as a result I did not think it a good idea to proceed with the purchase without some further research. Even if it costs me more.
Frankly, I was hoping for more replies, perhaps a bit of forum involvement and discussion before replying.
I apologise if I sound ungrateful - I do thank you for replying - but to tell the truth, responses on this thread was a bit sad.

I didn't think you were into making dust. Did you start up that thicknesser?
I noticed several maybe-relevant threads listed at the bottom of the page.
As for Cabatec's gear's better than Timbecon's, I was in Carbatec today, and passed my eye over the tablesaws (I'm not buying one, just did). Whatever their catalogue says, the model numbers on the sides of some of them looked very like the model numbers on Timbercon's. I reckon both buy from the same supplier (but not necessarily the same models, the 12" Sherwood I bought doesn't have a twin at Carbatec).

Derek,
you could look at the Bill Pentz site, as he describes the retro fit of a pleated cartridge type of filter to a stock standard dust collector. The filters are 12in. diam and 34in. high. You can buy them locally for about $200.
Another site (US) which also describes this is WynnEnvironmental.
hope that this is of use.

Thanks Ozzie
I did purchase one from Carba-tec before Christmas. It makes a HUGE difference over the bag. In fact I can say that a DC without a pleated cartridge is a total waste of money.
