    Thanks Bob. I have a different Powtran model, P19000 series and there is a similar table and instructions on page 148.

    There seems to be lots of material when you search for Reforming Capacitors.

    Chris, I would have used it at least every few months at worst. I fiddled around today connecting an el cheapie variable voltage unit to VFD. A couple of times the VFD sprang to life at about 50v with a display showing
    50.40
    Er d001
    But this lasted for only about 5 seconds. Apparently not dead yet but in need of life support.

    If it was no more than 3 months between uses I wouldn't pursue capacitor conditioning.
    Have you tried gently blowing it out with low pressure air?

    The fact that it does not stay lit up (not under any load) suggests the low V electronics side of things is not working, could be any number of things eg a Vreg or a transformer.

    I could put you in touch with Powtran and you could discuss it with them if you you feel inclined to do that. As I was not the retailer I would then have to leave it to you and them to see if a resolution or fix can be reached.     Not sure if you're going to discuss this with the manufacturer,
    If it is out of warranty, then it might be worth seeing if you can do a master reset.
    I have noticed this was necessary with my cheap Huanyang drive, when I had a potentiometer fitted to my bandsaw.
    I read it on one of the CNC pages somewhere.

    By this I mean not the parameter reset, but another reset

    Presuming one is aware of the lethal charge for some time that these will hold after unplugging!
    On the Huanyang there are two ribbon cables that is connected to the front panel PCB board.
    One is for the screen, and the other connects it to the rest of the jazz.
    Plug this cable out and probably a good idea to do a parameter reset also.

    That might fix things for you.
