In windy weather the wind blowing past any gaps in the building will make the building pressure negative pulling the flaps down.

Sorry guys...I've gone trailer trash on you and used a hub cap for the brim

I'm doing a glue test with a silicone adhesive on the black plastic (not that I expect it to work) before I decide how to cover the gaps on top and hang the plastic over the side.

This should work a treat with the side benefit of getting rid of a little more junk from The Pile™

    Mwahahahah

Nah, dad is obsessed with picking them up from the roadside to chuck on his van - which can never seem to hold onto them for long. This one didn't fit so by our junk collecting laws it's now mine

Some more trash and the chimney is complete

I sealed the hub cap with flattened sections of PVC pipe offcuts (yay for never throwing anything out) and silicone, then riveted some black plastic flaps around the sides. T'aint no rain getting into this thing now

It's become more of a joke now, but as long as it does the job until I can do something better I'll be happy.

Ahhh, an excellent example of what can be re-purposed from the The Pile, I watched a thing on SBS tonight where they had musical instrument makers make instruments from junk then the musicians played them, brilliant stuff.

I've vented mine through a wall using a self closing vent - mine's 125mm because that's what came off the dusty, but there's 150mm available:
Deflecto Gravity Wall Vent 150mm - Masters Home Improvement

These are sold at Bunnings as well. It would have made more sense for me to vent through the roof, but I'm plagued with spiders and I didn't want them finding their way into my extractor. The self closing vent prevents that possibility,

For a roof vent, a mushroom cap is what I'd least expect to impede airflow while providing rain protection. Mind you I have no hard data to back that up!
