Push vs pull dust extraction
Has anyone done any testing on whether it makes any difference to the effectiveness of a system where exactly you put the blower?
For example MandJ has got quite a nice setup as described here:
Beginner attempt at DC - thanks to forum members
In this setup the ducting leaves the workshop, goes through say 1m of 150mm duct and then connects to the blower. So the blower 'pulls' the air through that 1m of duct and then 'pushes' it into the bags.
How might things fare if the blower was located in the shop? For example, on the other side of that 1m of duct. So that air was being 'pushed' through the 1m of 150mm duct and then further pushed into the bags. Same length of ducting all up, just a different blower location.
I'm not suggesting that this would be a better solution. It's just that in my case it would be easier to do, and I'm wondering whether there would be any downsides.

The problem with a system such as you describe is that you are putting the waste through the impeller which ever way you set it up. Ideally you need a cyclone to take the debris ot of the airflow before it goes to the impeller.

Also, push systems have positive pressure in the bag/bin which means that any leaks vent dust out of the collection point. Every industrial system is a pull or 'clean air' system, which means that the fan is after the filters and only clean air passes through it. This means that leaks draw air into the bins instead of pushing dust out and the fan has no risk of being damaged by debris
