PVC Ducting Joint Seals
Hi
I am installing 150mm PVC ducting on my CV1800. Apart from the common problems of duct sizes ( Undersize and non standard pipe sizes) on machinery and the problems of joining PVC & flexible hose all seems to be going well.
One thing that I realised is that I have not sealed any of my joints. I am using dry joints between my Y and bend connectors and the pipe. With seven machines, some with multiple connections there are a lot of joints. The joints feel quite tight( very hard to pull apart) but I was wondering if there may be some leakage without either glue of Duct tape. In noticed that John Samuel has taped all his joints.
Has anyone measured the static pressure in a capped off system with and without Duct Tape. This would indicate if there was any significant leakage. Any other suggestions on how I might check for leakage?
I suspect that I am being over cautious as the leakage around Blast Gates is probably greater than at the pipe joints.
Anyone care to comment?
Cheers
Ron

It's generally worth using Duct tape.

As the Bishop said to the actress, "Trust me".
Use PVC duct tape, which is nice and flexible. If you get a tiny leak in a joint it will whistle and drive you mad. DAMHIKT.
Cheerio!
