PVC pipe setup
Looking into 150mm PVC pipes for my future DE setup. Just a few questions...
So I'm looking to get
This pipe:
PVC PIPE - STORMWATER PIPE - Pipe Online - Retic Fittings , Plumbing Fittings, Reticulation Supplies supplied Australia wide
3a. Pipe Stormwater PVC 150 MM 6 Metre (Foam Core) $48.56 + GST
I am going to try set up my workspace so that the DE is in the middle. I read that one should limit 90deg bends, therefore is this the best solution to split the two sides?
3a. Stormwater Junction 150mm x 45°
STORMWATER FITTINGS - STORMWATER JUNCTION - Pipe Online - Retic Fittings , Plumbing Fittings, Reticulation Supplies supplied Australia wide
And have blast gate directly on each side straight after the split?
And then if I need to do a 90 degree bend, should I be using 2x 45deg elbows with a bit of pipe in between them?
3a. Stormwater Elbow 45° FF 150mm
STORMWATER FITTINGS - STORMWATER BENDS - Pipe Online - Retic Fittings , Plumbing Fittings, Reticulation Supplies supplied Australia wide
How much pipe between the two 45s should I use? (if space permits)
What is a good blast gate to get which doesn't leak or is this something I should make myself?

The safest solution is to have the DC outside the shed
OR
Enclosed in an air tight enclosure inside the shed and vented outside the shed.
This suggests the best place is not in the middle of the shed.
The lowest resistance 90º bend is the large radius DWV bend like this.
DWV FITTINGS - DWV PLAIN BEND - Pipe Online - Retic Fittings , Plumbing Fittings, Reticulation Supplies supplied Australia wide
Yes it is lower in resistance resistance than 2 x 45º bends which is marginally lower in resistance than the the 90º Stormwater bend like this STORMWATER FITTINGS - STORMWATER BENDS - Pipe Online - Retic Fittings , Plumbing Fittings, Reticulation Supplies supplied Australia wide

If you put the DC in a corner the duct can run to the opposite corner with the branches running off it at 45º or 90º as needed. That is the most direct way to do it but the downside is the pipes can block some light fixtures or interfere with rollup doors if the ceiling is low. Can your DC be setup near a corner?

I have one of these W329 - DC-7 Dust Collector | Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse (except it is a carbatec 3phase machine rated at 3hp - if 3hp is the same in single or 3 phase but ill mention it). if I have it in the corner is 15m too far away for the furthest machine?
which company's mailing list should I subscribe to so I can see it as soon as it is announced?

what are my options in converting my DC to something that is single bag? 2 bags is too big and pain in the . I bought a cyclone and was going to vent it outside but if there is an option where I can set it up without a cyclone and only have 1 bag (ideally using a barrel so its easy to empty) and not loose suction that would be ideal

There's no way to reduce the number of bags and not lose suction. Also adding a cyclone will reduce flow - more so it its a after market DC. To minimise flow loses cyclones need to be properly paired to DCs. Cyclones can used on larger DCs as they can afford to lose some suction whereas (modified) 2 HP, and 3HP DCs with 12" impellers are borderline flow devices without cyclones.

I use an online calculator On-Line Duct Friction Loss to play what ifs with duct sizes and layout to get an idea of how things will shape up. It's not ideal and I'm not sure if I'm using it properly but it lets you see how much little or big changes make.
I put in round duct, 6" (150mm) diameter, PVC, 1200 CFM (a more realistic flow for a 3hp machine), duct length of 49' (15m), 4 elbows (a guess of what you might use), stamped (closest to PVC), R/D 1.5, sweep of 90º. The results when calculated is 5.3" of duct loss. That would be enough to collect from a machine. If your filters are clogged or you add a poorly designed cyclone then your suction falls off and isn't effective enough.
Bob has a similar DC and has likely made the measurements to have a fan curve that would show how much loss it would be able to handle and still have good suction. He is smarter than I am by a long shot.
As far as converting to a single bag you will build up more back pressure unless the filter bag you replace the two originals with has the same area or preferably more. If you are talking about the plastic bags then that's different.

yep its the issue of the plastic bags 1 plastic bag would be ideal for me filter bag isn't so much a problem. is there a way to retrofit pleated filters? I belive the filter bags are 5 micron whereas the pleated filters are 1 micron? Is there a way to set it up so the ducts aren't on the floor?
good to hear

From the out side there is nothing to see as the filter just sits on top of the fan housing. I would have to dismantle it to show the ring and it is only a double layer of 19 mm board glued together and cut to the fan size and filter size. the ring is screwed to the fan and the filter uses the original bag clamp to hold it on.

Retrofitting is pretty easy - shop around and make up adapters as required.
The 1 and 5 micron ratings are nominal but once either the bags or pleated filters (PFs) are conditioned the ACTUAL filtration is determined by the layer of dust that gets embedded in the filter material and they end up performing about the same. Not a problem if the DC is outside the shed.
If you are using a DC inside a shed a minor disadvantage is that PFs take longer to condition but the BIG advantage is they take much longer to clog up so will maintain better flows for longer.
