Default General Question needs detailed answer? maybe?

Out in Woodyland there are many "MEN'S SHEDS", Community Sheds, craft shed, sheltered workshops, the list goes on.

In a typical workshop you may find ,e.g.

a thicknesor, 3 band saws, 4 lathes, 2 panel-saws, a bigboy sander, a smaller bench sander, as well as numerous hand held sanders.

In this example, 3 small dust extractors(distributor) are overworked coping with the load.

How big a machine is needed to handle this, most machines only 10 to 15 minutes intermittently, 1 or 2 lathes may run for a hour or so.

Is there a generic solution suitable for many "sheds"?

    Who can sort this out?

    Cheers Barry

    Default Thanks BobL

Thanks BobL, for your input. I like it.

200mm tube? 150mm to each machine?

Not able to position outside in this example...maybe a position inside a totally paneled off area with an exhaust duct through the roof?

    Cheers Barry

Panelling off not essential, muffle motor and vent outside is OK

In my experience I don't think you need to worry too much about muffling the motor. the main areas to worry about are the impeller housing and making an effective exhaust muffler between the impeller and the exit from the shed. The attached picture show what I did and I now find that the original 97 decibels is now down to very acceptable level that is a to quieter than most of the machines I run.

Safari, please put some more pics up. I have two cyclones to install in the next month or so (they are here already) and one is a Clearview. Thanks in advance.

I don't have a lot of photos Jefferson. The ones I have attached here show the system before I built the muffler and shroud around the impeller as shown in the previous post. As depicted in these photos the system was way too noisy for me. The muffler construction is based on the one built by the guys at the Corrimal mens shed. http://mastslav.weebly.com

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Safari, thanks for the great link.

I did read there somewhere that they leave the cyclone running with all the blast gates closed. Is that right? I thought you had to have at least one open so the motor wasn't overloaded.

Not sure what they do Jefferson, I would have to read the page again but I run mine with with at least one six inch pipe open. I know that the Clearvue should only be run for very short periods, while setting up, without pipes attached to put some load on.
