Rectangular dust port on Jointer to a 150mm hose
I have a jointer (Carbatec CTJ350X) that has a rectangular dust collection port on it that is approximately 250x150mm (0.038m2). Attached to the rectangular port is a chute to reduce the area down to a 4" circular hose attach point (giving only 0.008m2). I have a 150mm diameter piping and hose setup for dust collection and would like to connect the jointer with the larger hose (resulting in 0.018m2) rather than reducing it to 4" and then enlarging it again to 150mm. So, I need to replace the chute but can't purchase anything off-the-shelf. What have you guys done to go from a 150mm hose to the rectangular cross section on a jointer?

I have recently asked the same question and had the benefit of quite a bit of discussion - see here:
6" Jointer -UPGRADES?
It's pretty clear there's not much (nothing) to be gained from upgrading to 150mm, however I did change the stock outlet to a much neater transition and have 700mm of 100mm flex before the 150PVC begins. I can't say I've noticed any improvement except for ease of connection because I also added magnetic ports, but I'm happy not looking at that awful black stock adapter!
Cheers,
P

Thanks for that. Your transition looks really good.
The numbers Bob posted, may say it isn't needed but I have found that there is still enough dust and chips escaping that it is worth investigating further. There is always some small chips that end up on the infeed table side of the jointer and also on the back side where there is a small gap around the helix head. With the presence of these chips and dust, it makes me think that maybe my particular jointer could benefit from the larger cfm available with the 150mm setup, even if just a little. The fact that we go from a large cross-sectional area to a small one that is almost 5 times smaller and then to just under half, seems like the perfect opportunity to remove the constraint in the middle.

I had one made at a sheetmetal shop, they were glad to do it because it gave the young apprentice a chance to do some geometry, and an interesting job for him. Charged me $100 and it’s perfect.

Here's The one I made for my planer/thick combo after I completely remade the hood but needed a rectangular to round transition.
It's made from SS from a clothes dryer drum.

I easily cut the stainless with aviator snips. The resulting edge is very safe so it can be easily handled.
