    Default Reducing dust extraction sound

Anyone out there that has successfully sound insulated their 2hp dusty. I was considering putting my dusty in a enclosure (booth) padded with sound deadening material, however, making sure there was sufficient ventilation. I am using the dusty in my garage where all surfaces are either brick or concrete, there is no option to putting it outside. Even if I can reduced the noise by a few dbs, I would be happy.

Well, I haven't but a couple of people on here have done something similar for their compressors. Sturdee being one that springs to mind. Have a search for sound proofing compressors and see what turns up.

Thanks SilentC, I'll see what comes up. A dusty would require a box with a suitable port for escaping air, the size of which will determine the sound deadening versus dust extraction efficiency.

True but you have the same issue in reverse for compressors. Maybe some sort of baffle so that it can still push air but the sound waves can't travel directly through the air.

Lots of ideas, but I haven't done it as yet, but I have soundproofed the air compressor and one of the vacs for one of my Sturdee mini cyclones.

I am currently working on rebuilding my DC system by removing the drum chip collector and building a Midi cyclone in its place as well as having installed 2 booster pumps.

When finished I will insulate the wall between the workshop and the DC as well as the floor above and all the booster pumps and vacs. Will make everything lovely and quiet.

In your case you will have to build a permanent enclosure with a remote DC switch and fixed ducting so that you can insulate and soundproof the enclosure. There are many examples on the net of how to do it as many of our American friends have done so.

Also a search for how I did the air compressor will help you with details.

Zelk, I made a cupboard for my dusty and lined it with sound reducing insulation, made a big difference.

Speak of the devil, Peter I was just trying find your posts. I am prepared to make an enclosure, but I am concerned about the ventilation to the dusty.

Barry, what insulation did you use and where did you get it? I got a few quotes on insulation and the prices were overwhelming.

Nice idea Ern, but somehow, I don't think the neighbours will want to wear them.

Zelk, CSR Bradford Sound Screen, got it local, should be able to pick up at any insulation place. Cant remember the cost, but it was worth it.

    Hi Zelk

Is there something amiss with yours. I have the same one and it is very quiet or at least quiet enough that I leave it running for some time.

Mine is always connected to my 2nd stage collectors so I wonder if this makes it quiet?

    cheers
