    Default reducing enlarging pipe diameter

somewhere.BobL mentioned that not all power tools need 150mm some can use 100mm,

that being the case if I was to use 100mm from say a drill press what PVC piece do I use to bring pipe up to 150mm
    Ducting4.jpg
the drawing top right shows a slow expansion(?), is this just wishful dreaming or is something like that available

or do I have to use those PVC pieces that look like 150mm and 100mm butted together.

Not sure if you are a turner or not, but if you are you could turn some mdf to be whatever adapter size you need.

The pictures of junctions that Johnredl shows are the least restrictive but if you want to purchase something off the shelf the junction you need is called a "transition" or a "adapter" or "level invert" like this.

Because there is a rapid change in diameter they are not the most efficient transition they are quick and dirty and a slightly better than using a hard or step transition like a box.

You can make your own longer transition using 2 couplers (150mm and 100nn) )and one longish (say 500mm) of 150 mm diameter pipe but it will be expensive
Take the 500mm long pipe and slice a lengthwise "V" out of the pipe so that one end fits into the 150 mm coupler and the other when when squeezed down fits into the 100 mm coupler. The middle part of the V will gape open but can be clamped into place while gluing together - piece or strips of the V you just cut out can be clamped and glued over the join. I found a picture frame strap clamp works really well for this or just pieces of thinnish fencing wire twisted tight will pull the gap closed and hold the pieces while the glue dries.

this is a great idea, do you use it yourself Bob, as you say very time consuming, but it allows smooth air flow. I'll bet you dont have WIP photos. yee gawds what time is it over there 6.30 AM ish?

We used these at work and lately are the mens shed for two cases where we had to reduce from a a 240 down to a 225 mm pipe and another form 225 down to 200.
They require a lot of length (2 couplers + 500 mm) so if you are tight for space like I am in my shed I use "level Inverts".

You can see one right at the top of this pic.

Here's on one going from a 100 mm gate to 50 mm hose for my power tools

I normally get up between 4 and 5 am these days. My sleep is rubbish due to the meds I am on and usually get anywhere from 2 to 6 hours of sleep a night. Monday night I got 1 hour. Last night was good - I got 6.5 hours of sleep! That plus my cortisone allowed me to do a 7.5 km walk this morning with the dogs. When I get up in the middle of the night I some times work on my electronics project and browse the forums.

Thanks for clarifying that Bob. As much as If like to make my own tapered ones, I am aware of my gifts and talents, and they are long way off doing that.
Plus Pipesonline have various 'level inverts'....just as well I forgot to place my order with them yesterday. Glad the wife is happy me setting up standards, hope she dont find out what its cost $$ for setup.
