Read this thread - Improving machine cabinet dust ports - yes read all 226 posts (so far)!

Around post #66 it shows how I made/making the first of the 4" hoods, 6" hoods are a little further in .

or possibly pouring your own molds from liquid with hardener, or have you been turning them out of wood and then polishing/painting them so finely that they look like PVC?
Been there and done that - in the Market place I'm giving away a couple of turned wooden ones - WA pickup only. I've now made close to 1000 of them mainly for mens sheds. Autoblastgates also make and sell them.

Do they have a temperature range limit for operation. Are they safe working close to a tin roof in QLD in Summer?
I am assuming there are no issues extending the wiring to a 10A GPO that is 4m away?

Our automatic rocking gates work at any angle, my local mens shed has installed them both ways and some in between. I will let Tony address any questions on heat as he is the technical guru who designed and builds the electronics but if pushed I would say not. The controller is placed adjacent to the GPO that the machine is powered from and a low voltage wire runs from it to the blast gate. The beauty of the design is that it is plug and play with no need to deal with high voltages at any time. I used speaker wire to extend the run on one BG and have no problems at all and thinking about it that BG would be at least 4 metres from the controller.

WOW - So I have some more reading to do... Learning so much! I am not good with patience and as such want to get it all started straight away. But, it will take me a week or two just to build a new shed to house the DC, run power to it and insulate it (Noise mostly - but still need airflow).

Thanks Chris, I think I will be purchasing a single manual 150mm gate to start with. It will be the roof air extraction port gate and will save me from having to use a stick or a ladder to control it.
I will finalise my designs over the next week or so (They keep changing as I learn more) and place an order.

    Cheers,
    Tom

The linear actuators are rated to 65°C working temperature. I would try to avoid installing it somewhere that will regularly be subjected to those sorts of temperatures though. Even moving it a few centimetres further from the underside of the roof would be preferable.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

    Okay, I’ll work with that!
May even place a square of insulation directly above so that radiated heat from the roof is removed around the gate.
Thank you very much NCArcher. And thank you for the fast reply.
I am still totally amazed at how wonderful and helpful everyone is on this forum.
So much intellect and experience. I am at times overwhelmed. 2 weeks ago I thought YouTube was the go to place.
Now I feel like a Wombat for not delving into forums earlier.
Hopefully I’ll be able to contribute soon rather than just taking advice, but I gotta tell you that you all are a hard act to follow. BobL especially!

    Cheers,
    Tom

TonyZ - wow, 4 AutoBlastGates with piggyback leads all on the same power pack. Makes a lot of sense to keep them together and there is no way that they are going to draw enough to pop the breaker on the power pack. Nice Job. Thanks heaps for the photo - speaks 1000 words....
Are you planning on a removable clear acrylic front panel to keep any dust out and cords in?

    Nice Job TonyZ!!

I had better go and take care of the tasks I have been alloted by Swmbo (She Who Must Be Obeyed)!

    Cheers,
