I found my remote - Its a Kambrook.

There's no need for me to test it - I opened it up and here's what's inside.
The grey box is a "low budget" solid state relay that does the actual power switching

The info on the front says its rated for 10A at 250V but a closer look at the data sheet for this component says this is for RESISTIVE loads only (heater or kettle etc).
For general (non-motor) use its rated at 7A 250V

For motors it's only rated at 1/3HP so using it on a 3HP motor means higher failure risk.

The data sheet says the MAX switching current is 15A and given that the startup current for a 3HP motor can be as high as ~60A this is another reason not to use these remotes on DCs.

I’m having trouble posting pictures, but this is the link to the unit:

    https://www.timbecon.com.au/sherwood...dust-extractor

    In that it says:
“ At 750CFM (cubic feet per minute) the 2200W (3HP) motor provides exceptional suction whilst being able to be run on a standard 10A house plug. This unit has more than enough power to handle 2 machines at once through its two 100mm intakes or 125mm single intake. Unlike single stage dust extractors, these are high static pressure/low volume. This means though the CFM is lower than a single stage machine, this unit provides more than enough dust collection to handle multiple machines simultaneously.”
Give them a call and ask how big the impeller is, HP as long as it is enough to drive the impeller means nothing at all. A 14" impeller when driven by a 3HP motor or a 5HP motor will move exactly the same amount of air at the same impeller speed. Please disregard all information that refers to air volume in any sales literature, most of it is wishful thinking and all of it refers to the US where dust extractors operate at far greater speeds. Selling dust extractors is a con game run by retailers to make the customer feel good.

I use an Arlec remote to trigger a 25A contactor - see this thread and post for more info.
