Thread: Scheppach HA1000 dust collector

This unit is basically a vacuum cleaner and will be moderately successful at collecting chips from small diameter (1") short (3") objects being turned on a wood lathe.

To collect the fine dust you will need around 10 times the rated collection rate which, given what I have measured on other dust collectors will be around half the real flow rates.

The added problem with these type of units is they can make more fine dust than they actually collect since the mince larger particles into smaller ones which pass straight through the filters and go on to fill the shed..
The best way for reducing this problem would be to put the unit outside - this also gets around the room (and noise) problem inside a shed.

What about the Sherwood DC-50 - Compact Dust Extractor (https://www.timbecon.com.au/compact-dust-extractor). They claim to filter to .5 micron. I am looking at these as i only have a SCMS (in a hood) and a bandsaw. Maybe in the future i would get a router. Would one of these hooked up to the hood of the SCMS help? and then easily switch to the bandsaw? I only have 1/2 of a single car garage workshop, so a full collection system would eat up a far amount of space (no ability to put it outside) and $$.
