    Default SCMS Dust Collection

    Hi
I have looked at heaps of youtube videos on dust collection from a SCMS and still do not have a clue on how to improve my dust collection. I have a modified 2HP dust collector with 6inch pipe to my saw. Has anyone actually tried anything and been successful?

    Cheers
    Mike

you need to roughly box the SCMS in and put your dust collection to draw air in from the box.

trying to "plumb" it straight into the 2" ports will just be silly.

i've very roughly tried it here with results.

Just get rid of your existing SCMS and buy a Makita SCMS with Dust Chutes already built in.
    Problem much more easily solved.

(Would then just need a ShopVAC sucking a $40 miniCyclone mounted on a 20l or larget can)

6" pipe with Impeller type dust collection is inferior to a ShopVac when the chute has a small diameter.

IF!!!! you can create a dust extraction unit that will constantly remove lets say 90% of the dust your SCMS produces you will be the saviour of woodworking.
Simply because of their design they are the most difficult unit for dust extraction.

ps I am playing with my 5th attempt and not excited with the results compared to the effort and time involved. I scratch me noggin at some of the ideas on YT 2" does not impress me
I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds
