Q&D SCMS extraction
A member from the mens shed (that I am still a member of) called me on Monday to ask about an extraction issue from the shed's SCMS which (putting it mildly) "makes a bit of mess". I stopped doing anything in terms of dust extraction for the shed about 2 years ago and by several other members have taken up some of the slack.
Anyway I said to the member that called me "I thought one of the members was going to build a hood for that over a year ago?" but apparently nothing has been done about it. Yes, I know everyone is busy etc etc.
Anyway said member that called was chasing was a quick solution that would catch at least some of the dust. We discussed what he had on hand which included a 6" duct, about 4m from the CLearVue, hanging down just behind the saw (all ready for a nice hood!) and this is what he sent back.

A length of 40mm vac hose, a piece of 50mm PVC irrigation pipe and fitting, and a couple of bits of wood, and of course the obligatory gaffer tape!
Now I was skeptical that it would collect any chips (let alone the fine dust), but the member said it collected "most" (whatever that means) of the chips and he and the supervisor were quite pleased with it as an interim measure until the hood is built. Now I would like to place a bet on whether this will still be there in 12 months
Fortunately this saw is right next to a large roller door and the very large Evap AC is very effective at venting the fine dust from the shed. When the hood finally arrives the SCMS would be an excellent candidate for an auto blast gate
