Default Seeking feedback on setup please.

    Hi all,

First off, I wanted express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for the contributions that have been made on this forum. I shudder to think of where I would be if not for the well-considered and detailed comments.
I am hoping to get some feedback on my proposed set up. I have based this on my (so so so many) hours of reviewing this forum.

I am also sorry about my horrid diagram!

    Some initial set up comments:

    • The extractor is a Felder AF22 4hp single phase unit. From the unit there is a 160mm outlet that I will hook up to the 150mm PVC (in blue). This is suspended form the roof and will connect to the machines with a short run of 160mm flex (fits over the 150mm PVC) with a reducer to 5”.
    • The large shed is approx. 4.5m wide and 12m long. The little shed is 4mx3m.
    • The green parts are windows that can open.
    • The blue box in the window where I will mount a 12” Centrifugal fun (this one: 12"/315mm Inline Fan).
    • The blue circle is a fan that will oscillate.
    • The machines currently have a 5inch ports. The TS is one of the contractor style open units. I will be cladding the frame to capture more dust. Not sure what to do with the blade guard as yet. I currently only use it when the roller door is open and with PPE.
    • I am building a little hood for the mitre saw. This also has a Festool CT 36 connected.
    • I have tried and failed dramatically to make a bell mouth. Does anybody know where I can by one or pay somebody to make one?
    • Is an in-room filter going to make any material difference?

I suppose my main question is if I am missing anything major!

    Many thanks in advance.

having got my head around 150mm and 2HP ? units I am out of my depth, dont worry though the learned ones will arrive soon with the answers.

Comments I will offer, OPEN UP your ports on machines to 150, forget the 5" outlets, BobL will charge at this one with all the references you could dream of.
I presume the dusty is in the outside box/shed?
Where you have the long run in ceiling put in a couple of Y's facing either side and cap them, down the track you WILL buy other machines and hey the pipework is already there.
What do you have in machines already?
where are they placed on your drawing?
instead of a 90* elbow bring the main line back a little and use a 45* less air drag..

Thanks for the comments mate. To answer the questions:

Yes, the dusty will be outside the main shed in its own little dusty home. This is a garden storage shed but is solid and weatherproof.
Re 150mm ports - yes sorry - I should have said that they will all be opened up. The Bandsaw will be difficult (it is a Hammer N4400) but will likely split the 150mm to connect to the dust port and get a bell month under the table.
I currently have the machines disconnected. When in use, I have the roller doors open and am wheeling the dusty around to connect directly with a flex. The machines are the (very poorly drawn) red squares.
Good tip re the Y connectors and the 45 connectors.

Given the DC you are using, connected to 5" ducting it will draw a typical max of 786 where as 6" draws up to ~ 1250 CFM - opening up the ports on machines to 6" will be well worth doing.
The green parts are windows that can open.
I would keep the window nearest the DC closed when using the DC otherwise these is a chance fine dust escaping the DC will circulate back to the shed.
The blue box in the window where I will mount a 12” Centrifugal fun (this one: 12"/315mm Inline Fan).
I'd move that fan closer to the door,
The blue circle is a fan that will oscillate.
Unless you are using it for cooling purposes al that will do is disturb the flow and cater fine dust to all parts of the shed.

Efficient extraction can be obtained by ditching the blade guard and placing a barrier (plastic, chipboard or sheetmetal) between the legs and the cabinet and cutting a 6" port in the middle of the barrier. The back of the saw will need to be partially sealed - this needs to be flexible eg heavy plastic sheeting to allow for the blade tilt mechanism. The OH guard will need something, 4"ducting is usually enough for this.
I have tried and failed dramatically to make a bell mouth. Does anybody know where I can by one or pay somebody to make one?
I'm still making these PM me for details if you are interested.
Is an in-room filter going to make any material difference?
Not really - especially if the DC is running.
However, if you want to do some finishing in a reduced dust environment, with the DC off, seal up the doors and windows and run the filter for an hour or so before applying the finish should give good results.

what did I say, take what BobL says as factual, he has done enough research and knows what he is talking about. He is our guru on this page.
