I will build my new shop soon (20'x32' garage ) and I try to plan how to build my dust
collector system. I read all I can on this forum and other since more than one month, I found
a lot of information but a lot differents advices too. I'm trying to decide but it's not easy, so I
ask you your ideas and opinions.

- I plan to put the DC in a small room under the stairs. Since the DC must reject air, this
piece should not be air tight; I thought to put some large openings with furnace filters. The
best would be to put some vents to outside but this is not suited for Quebec winter; I will
throw the hot air out...

- My budget is very limited (I'd pay for the entire garage ... it's expensive!)
Thus I think to buy no more than 1 1/2hp DC. (Probably Delta 50-760, my
choice is very limited here).

- I dont make a lot of wood ships, but a lot of fine dust. I wonder if a cyclone can help with very fine dust ?
I use mostly belts grinders on wood and mammoth ivory (I am knifemaker and jeweller). My main concert
is the length of duct (more than 30 ft) to connect my table saw and miter saw. The best would be to bring them
closer to the DC, but I use these tools on an occasional basis and I like having them on
wheels, near the garage door...

- I admit that my biggest hesitation is the kind and size of ducting to use. I look since many
weeks in all stores but the choices are limited and ordering online cost me a fortune in shipping. I have to choose between:

4" PVC (about 11$ for 10 feets) + (Wye about 5$)
6" Snaplock Galvanized sheet metal Pipe 30 gage (10$ for 5ft) + (Wye about 18$)
6" Polypropylene (55$ for 10 ft) + (Wye about 40$)
6" PVC Shedule 40 (100$ for 10 ft) + (Wye about 46$)

The 4" PVC is in my prices range, but only a few people recommending the 4"... The sheet
metal pipes are not too expensive but the fittings (Wye) are quite expensive anyway... 6"
PVC are too much expensive (especially fittings).

At this time, I think of two main 6" metal pipes connected with 4" PVC pipes and 4" flex
tubes to connect to each machines (see my picture plan: 6 " in green, 4" in. orange).

I hope to have your ideas and comments !
(and sorry for my poor english...)
