This is normal to some degree or other but especially so when the flexy is restricted as much as you have done to it. My 150 mm flexy if quite stiff but still collapses by around 30% when in normal use while some of the softer 100 mm collapses by more than 50%.

That impeller with a 150 mm ducting attached can draw ~1200 cfm. Then you stick a 100 mm duct on the end which only allows ~400 cfm through it so no wonder it wants to collapse.
Worse still my guess is the 100 mm ducting is attached to a restricted machines so not even 400 cfm will be flowing.

The 6" flexy should only be used if it connects directly to a a 6" port on a machine OR 3 x 100 mm ducts are in use simultaneously.

One thing you could consider is building yourself a semi-flexi duct. Get some PVC pipe, trim it into short lengths (say 0.5m to 1.0m depending on articulation required) and join it with short pieces of flexi. On a per metre basis PVC pipe should be cheaper than flexi and it will also have considerably less pressure loss.

Don't forget 6" PVC is actually 160 dia so you may need 160 flex to connect the PVC sections or alternatively buy some 150 dia metal duct to use the 150 flexi you already have.

thanks Muchacho, I was thinking about that on the way to work this morning, consider most of the ducting is straight in my workshop, its only a few places needs to be bendy/flexy.

the hose shrunk to 750mm when I turn on my chip collector, when I turned it on it was just sucking air. nothing more.

I should have never bought it.

Anyway, I am quite ashamed of myself bought an item from a store like this, I will never buy from a store like this again. Tomorrow I am going to a proper place and get me some proper PVC duct.

I have got some 160 flex from Felder, It is good quality hose and it fit snug over 150 pvc pipe, here in sydney do not know if there have a outlet in NZ.

Take it back and get a refund. It is not as advertised, does not fit the purpose and could be described as 'not of merchantable quality' which is legal jargon for virtually fraudulent selling.

I'm told these guys sell some of the best flexi hose available in NZ. Don't have any myself so cannot vouch for it. From memory though it's not cheap, I was quoted ~$44 per metre for 127mm diameter flexi hose about a year ago, not including freight.

Personally I've found it a mission sourcing good quality DE equipment in NZ. My biggest issue is getting an opportunity to view stuff before purchase.

Hi G, Thanks for the tip I have been to Airtight in person and was quoted a Dantherm extraction system and ducting (250mm main trunk with 3 droppers), I think the price is reasonable, if anyone has thought about Felder extraction should give it a try.

Regarding the PVC, they sell heavier duty ones and it cost more than $50 per m(about $75? for 150mm), and the heavier ones dont flex under load... they do professional stuff though, even the hose clip they sell is better in quality than anything I have seen in AKL, but I dont think they are economical for hobbyist.
