Default Solving the problem with magnetic switch and remote nw together

Not sure if this is safe, so throwing it out there.

Bought set of remotes from Supercheap Auto, mainly to use with my Carbatec dust collector. sadly the magnetic switch wont allow the remote to control.

My solutions as attached was a simple clamp to keep the units switch permanently on.

Works, and can't see any safety concerns yet myself as the unit is either on or off at the wall.

    any concerns?

Personally, I'd wire the control in downstream of the mag switch; that way you keep the "fooled you, it was just a momentary power outage" protection as well as easy access to a more slappable "goddamn my shirt sleeve is caught in the arbor, turn off you evil thing" button. (I can just imagine trying to find a little keyfob remote in a panic situation)

I'm with MS best to wire it with the NV switch before the remote.

Send me a PM, and I will send you a wiring diagram for a way to rewire the switching so you can have benefit of NV switch and remote control at low cost. Credit to another member of this forum for assisting me ! . Of course, should be validated and wired by qualified electrician.

    Default Thanks

    Thanks guys,

Not sure that going downstream of the magnetic switch is possible for me to do as it is attached to the machine itself.

That would mean hiring a sparky, which I wanted to avoid. Looks like I need to stump up

As you say, reverse the placement and both work fine.

OK, saving the pennies for a sparky, might see if I can put a paddle switch on the table saw at same time

Same problem for me. What sort of remotes should I buy? I've pm'd Glenn for a diagram too.

I got the remote at Supercheap Auto. It was a set consisting of two individual plug in devices plus a 4 socket board as well as the remote control. pretty good value at $40. The remote can individually control each device or all at once

Using it to control my Christmas Village display at the moment while I wait to solve the wiring issue

    Default Cheap and easy remote.

I've set up my DC to be switched on at a remote location. First I removed the switch assy, then inserted 2 spade fuses (10 amp I think it was) blue to blue and brown to brown. I covered the hole where the switch was, with a bit of ice cream container. I put the switch next to my biggest dust maker, the lathe, mounted onto a plastic box (from electrical wholesaler) with a 3 core inlet lead and plug (taken from a broken down machine) connected the earth leads with appropriate cap, and an extension cord with a base (as used for fluros on the ceiling) mounted near the DC. Plug in the DC and then plugged in the cord to the switch. Job done, total cost about $15 for the base and box, spade fittings, fuses taken from parts box. No sparky required .

"It was done by a sparky who I got the contact number for off one of those tag sheets at the local shops. His details should be on the invoice that's sticky-taped near the switch...oh, yes, that burned bit of paper...."
