I figure if I get a decent sized compressor - it won't be running long or frequently, so little real noise nuisance value.... the CV only when the machines are running - again I have some control over what times I do that (during the day mainly - I can do set out or finish work hand sanding or gluing and cramping up etc at night).

If at all possible I want to keep the neighbors happy.
Just be aware that Compressors and gensets are different to DCs and so will need different air management.

With a DC, a soundproof enclosure is needed that lets air out. The sound escaping this enclosure needs a muffler

Aside from the exhaust gasses with a genset, both gensets and compressors require fresh air in and warm air out so two mufflers are needed.
Quite a lot of cooling air is required. I have a thermometer and small fan that drives air through my compressor enclosure when the compressor is running. Even on occasional use my small (2.5HP) compressor lifts the temperature inside the enclosure to about 10-15º above ambient. With more prolonged use the temperature can reach 20-25º above ambient.

Mine has a sort of a muffled pathway that enables fresh air to come in at the bottom of the enclosure and one at the top to let warm air out aided by the small fan.

I guess it would be possible to build one enclosure and divide it in half.

Probably 1 enclosure and 3 separate compartments I was thinking Bob... I was thinking for the genset an exhaust stack muffler arrangement like a mack truck... - it won't get used often, more of a backup if we get a sustained power outage (and this being a commercial area / retail trade zone Western power tend to fix any outages here within hours due to trading losses and potentially high claims for spoiled food from the nearbye cool stores). Really the genset, is just me preparing for the predicted zombie attack cataclysms of the future...

In a previous life, when i lived on an Island -

I had a gen shed with two diesel gensets, that ran 24/7/365 & drove us nuts with the constant drone.. and I tried just about any and everything to quiet them (exhaust into a 44 gal drum full of water, exhaust into an underground pit - you get the idea) and nothing worked.

Eventually you get deaf enough not to notice any more!. Nothing short of many mufflers will have much effect I don't think.
With the gen set I was thinking of offering the rear neighbor an extension lead connection for when the power goes out, so we both benefit from the power, in return for putting up with the noise.

Compressor is the one that's worrying me noise wise... might have to do something clever (magnetic levitation?) to stop it thumping the ground when it runs maybe. I'll work it out eventually... anti gravity mounting...float it in a mercury bath or something..

    Sparky's coming Friday!

    Enjoying the journey.

Yeah they are a bugger to deal with. One attempted solution I have seen is to put the whole genet inside a sea-tainer lined with 150 mm of rock wool. The last 1/3rd of the container was an enclosure lined in rock wool and baffles also lined with rock wool - did it work - sort of.

What about some Pump up tyres ?.

    Default Of course

Of course pneumatic tyres - simple is good!

My mag lev neodymium rare earth magnets mount idea, just got scupperd with a couple bike/wheelbarrow wheels!

    KISS principle at work!

    I love it.

Cheers for that one Bob... I owe you for that one.
