What I don't understand about the SDD is one of the ports is 5" in diameter and the other is 6". This means it will not allow the 6" intake and ducting to operate at it's optimum capacity. It would have been much better if they had made both 6".

I have my SDD connected to my Jet 2hp DC and a network of 4" pipes and blast gates. It works well for me. Here is a picture of it.

If you are happy enough with it that's great but it would work better if the 4" intakes on the impeller and the 4" ducting were replaced with 5" pipe. Better still would be 6" ducting since the Jet 2HP unit is quite capable of utilizing 6" ducting.

I agree with you. What I am saying is 4" is still good enough for me. Having said that I might upgrade the entire system to 5" one day.

Hey Wongo, did you get yours locally or bring it in? They are pretty expensive from CT.

I got mine from CT but it was still cheaper than shipping one from the US. Shipping cost was very expensive.

Just got DD DIY and wonder if I need to provide some sort of air-seal under the plywood or whatever I make the lid I mount it to.

I don't see why not.

I have scrapped the idea of the SDD and took delivery today hafco DC7. I will use it as is for now and will eventually cut it up and turn one half into a thien top hat cyclone. The DC7 has 3hp and a 6 inch inlet. Not sure if the motor can run with the shaft vertical, so will mount it with a 90deg elbow into the top of the cyclone. When I get going on the build I will start a thread with some pics. Last weekend I help a friend ripping 2400mm lengths of MDF (75 full cuts) , really needed the dusty for that instead of wearing masks and opening the roller doors.
