Thread: Swimming pool hose becomes a DE hose???

We don't have a pool but I have over the years picked up some 10's of metres of the stuff from bring out your dead rubbish collection.
It usually has some holes in it here and there which is why it gets chucked out.

I used some on my forge to get air from a VC up to the torches.
I use it up because every now and then I end up poking a red hot bit of metal through itv


I have two types
Grey: 32/38 mm ID/OD
and
Aqua 47/38 mm IP/OD

It squeals a bit if you try and put too much air through it.
It has corrugations so it is fairly turbulent but the bigger stuff could be used with a VC.
Unless you needed the flexibility I think it would be better to use smooth walled PVC

I might take a 36mm fitting down to the hardware tomorrow with a vernier, and see what I find (the Aldis hose would be the same I reckon).

Yes, it would only be where flex is needed Bob ( 40mm drainage pipe is even cheaper still, but larger pipes I'm not so sure)

I also remembered I have about 7 m of blue hose under the house, that is 35/45 mm

Just to be clear, I was quoting the Aldis advert there, re the smooth walls etc.

I have two slightly different sizes of pool hoses.....
one zodaic and the other bunnings generic.....
I'll check the sizes tomorrow...

Tell you what, these look pretty damned useful too. This extension pole could have the handle cut off, and used as a variable length pipe (gaff the joins). Pretty small ID, I know.

Both hoses seem to be 38mm NB though both samples have different cuff ends.....
I'm reasonably sure that the standard pool hose is 38mm.
I think it'll be a case of having to check the actual hose in the shop on Saturday.

I found a few lengths of this stuff on a hard rubbish clean-up, and thought I was on a winner, hooking it up to a router table through a Triton dust bucket to a vacuum cleaner.
It was a good idea at the time.
Couldn't believe the high pitched scream that was produced.
Turned out to be the convolutions on the hose creating some sort of harmonics. Twisting and squeezing the hose produced different notes, not particularly musical, but still dammed noisy. I tried shorter pieces with a slight improvement, but gave up on the whole project due to the incredible noise.
I reckon part of the problem was the convolutions, as against the spiral wound hoses usually used for air suction.

See if you can borrow some from a neighbour for experiments before spending any money on this.

You are going to live to regret this. The stuff squeals like a stuck pig, is as thin as tissue paper between the ribs and cracks under the slightest provocation once it has a bit of age to it.
Sounds a bit like me.
