I have some of the non-smooth internal hose that I rescued from a swimmimg pool. Screams like a banshee. I'd give the smooth stuff a try though. Hell of a lot cheaper than Festool hose. I mean tube.....make that hobe. I think it has an O/I D
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I seem to recall from somewhere previously in these forums that the screaming might be caused by swimming pool hose or similar tubing without a spiral ridge pattern. I cannot guarantee my memory for this though. My own experience has been that, attached to a vacuum cleaner and a dust separator I have not observed any noise harmomics. Indeed heavier objects actually spiral down the tube following the ridges suggesting that the air also spirals along the tubing and thus no harmonic waves are formed. The draw back, as stated, is after a while it eventually tends to crack with a bit of use, probably moreso if the hose has been in the sun. But hey, I can get mine really cheap from a recycling centre nearby for a few bucks so breakage is of little concern. I found getting suitable fittings to attach to the dust seperator a bit harder to come by but tapered one with a screw fitting that threads onto the ridges in the hose turned up on a length of hose I bought.
Maybe as BobL said it is the rate of air flow that is critical for the harmonics. Clearly my system doesn't suck too much.

Hose vs Pipe vs Tube
From my engineering studies in the RAN, I learnt the following:
Tube is measured by the O.D. - Outside Diameter
Tube (fluid conveyance) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pipe is measured by the N.B. - Nominal Bore
Pipe (fluid conveyance) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hose is measured by N.B. - Nominal Bore
Hose (tubing) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've used all sorts of hose on various suction systems, currently I have some of that blue swimming pool hose which was a scavenge from a nature strip collection, works a treat.
