N.S.W (Sydney) checkout the 2HP Dust collector setup
Hi All,
I am still a newbie to woodworking and trying to understand the dust collection setup. I want to understand the noise level that I am getting myself involved in before making any purchase. This is for a hobby setup at home garage.
Is there any one Sydney (I live in North) who would like to show me their Dust collection setup to understand better and get an idea on the noise levels.
Thanks in advance
Kamesh

I’m near Hornsby if that helps. However my set-up is in a shed isolated from the house.

The generic 2HP DCs I've measured typically generate 85-87 dB at one metre.
If you decide to put your DC outside your shed or in an enclosure inside your shed that vents outside the shed the sound of rushing air entering a machine port on a relatively quiet machine like a lathe can be as much as 80dB. This won't matter on a noisy machine like a thicknesser.

One thing I’ve noticed, the old mans dust collector, which is the type with a large impeller mounted above the bag and the 5” inlet in the centre, is much, much quieter than the hare and Forbes dc3 I had down the river job. As it’s older it might be made of better materials But it’s certainly a lot quieter. This is the only photo I could find of it

Kamesh at the moment I have three different types of dust collectors at my workshop at Somersby, you are welcome to come and try them out for noise levels.

Hi Lappa, Thanks a lot.
It would be great if you can accommodate some time please.
Please let me know where you located and suitable times.
I would like to see how big it is, how noisy it is and get an understanding of DC's.
Thanks again
Kamesh
