    Default My Thien separator

Here's another one. There may be a couple of features that someone may find interesting.

First was the choice of drum. I hung out until I got one with the wide mouth and a lockable lid. Available at Mudgee Drum Recyclers for $35, but they should be available elsewhere too. I put casters on the bottom, but I should have used bigger ones. I'll change them over, eventually.

I used flanges with nuts and bolts around the inlet and outlet pipes for stability thru the thin plastic lid. The holes i drilled were a tight fit so I didn't need to use any gumbo. I also used another elbow on the inlet side, just to get a better directional flow along the tangent of the side wall rather than into it.
You can see the drum is full, the upper chamber was full too before I started getting anything in the dusty. Very little comes thru otherwise, using the thicknesser with only a 1hp dusty there is no clogging at the top end, just a nice continual flow of chips, even with heavy cuts.

To connect between the 4" dust hose and the 100mm water fittings I used earthenware to PVC adaptors. I leave them permanently attached to the flexible hose and just slip them into the PVC elbows for action. You can see the thicknesser is on casters too, it all goes outside when it is in use.

Nice! I completely forgot about that type of drum. Any reason why you didn't make yourself a top out of the same material as the bottom?

The original top works fine and it was easier to go with it rather than make a new one.
