Default Any tips for fitting dust extraction to an old bandsaw?

Have an old 1990's bandaw that wasn't manufactured with dust extraction in mind - any tips for how to set up some dust extraction on it?

Two old bandsaws with no stock dust extraction ports

This is the 14" saw - your you have to get the angle grinder out and cut a hole in the door or cabinet !

    This is the 16" BS
Both hoods are mounted on the door so the upper hood has to be on an articulated arm to makes sure it clears the table when teh door is opene3d.

    Both saws side by side.

Cheers Bob - that gives me some clues - like you said I will need to cut the appropriate holes but that's not a big issue.

Not shown in those photos is that a vent was also cut into the cabinets diagonally opposite the new ports.

Wondering how much each port collects? Is one doing most of the work?

Provided it's placed as close as possible to the blade the under table that one will collect the most. If needs be, the top and bottom lips of that BMH can be trimmed to get is closer.

I wrote up this thread, which may help: Hammer N4400 dust control (should work on other bandsaws)

Bob - any thoughts on what the percentage of overall dust generated is collected by the dust collection on the bandsaws that you posted photos of?

I haven't done any testing on those particular saws. ThOSe saws also need an air vent cut into the side of the cabinet (opposite the dust collection port) to improved the cabinet venting.

The only BS I have done any "real" testing on is mine which has some similarities to those above, but mine has an extra "stick" collection point on the side of the cabinet (that does near stuff all) cabinet.
Mine shows near 100% fine dust collection - well, I can't detect more than double shed background at the operators shoulder. I normally don't worry about visible dust collectin too much and still loses some visible dust on many thinks like thickness of wood, and orientation and width of the throat plate slot.

Look here, it shows a table catcher and in the last few posts of that thread goes into grimy detail about the orientation and width of the throat plate slot
    BS dust extraction
