Upgrade the 1 hp motor on a carba tec dust extractor to something more powerul.
i purchased a 1hp dust extractor from Carba Tec without knowing the fall off of suction once you place a bend and concertina hose in the system. Is it possible to replace the 1hp motor with something more powerful. has anyone done this. Thanaks

Hi John, Firstly welcome to the forum.
It won't make any difference what size motor you use on those small DCs.
It's not the motor that is a problem, it spins at 2850RPM which will be exactly the same as a bigger motor, it's that the impeller is too small, and of too poor a design that it cannot generate amy more than about 6" of Water column pressure. In addition having only one small dust bag generates a greater back pressure so that by the time all this is overcome there's stuff all pressure left to move air.
The most those small DCs can move is about 380 CFM of air so even putting 6" ducting on them is a waste of time.
If you can wade through the mountain of dust related stuf on this forum you will eventually find that it takes
~14" impeller, 3HP motor and 6" ducting, PLUS machines fdust ports have to be opened up to accept the 150 mm ducting and allowance has to be made for air to come into a machine to pick up the dust.
