    Default Upgrade Dust Extractor unit

Looking at updating my current dust extractor set up- HAFCO https://www.machineryhouse.com.auw329 and W316 - CDS-2/3 Cyclone Dust Separator | Hare & Forbes Machineryhouse

Just wondering what I can achieve by updating to https://www.timbecon.com.au/sherwood...dust-extractor or a Carbatec CDC-850P 2-stage Cyclone Dust Collector | Carbatec.

I have a leaning to the Sherwood unit. Both units have a mobile frame, pleated cartridge filter, dust drum on casters with a lift mechanism to aid in emptying. The Carbatec unit is 2Hp and the Sherwood unit is 3HP. Both have similar airflow of 750CFM HPLV. However the Sherwood unit has a 125mm intake which would integrate to 150mm PVC piping in place already in place.

For those who may have one of these units, would you recommend the unit or did it not quite live up to the advertising. Interested to hear you comments before proceeding.

    Thanks Nifty.

Short answer im going to say nope.

HP doesnt translate to more air being moved. Tge only way to "suck" harder, is either bigger impeller or spin the impeller faster. HP kind of just says how much power your motor can handle before over heating and tripping out.

As per the sticky, for dust collection your far better off modifying your current DC to 150mm intake and use 150mm pipe through out. The upgrade to 125mm still limits you to 125mm at the inlet which negates the whole point of 150mm pipe as you've choked it down to 125mm

For ease of emptying etc the upgrade is obviously alot better of a setup.

I would not get either of the cyclones you link for the reasons havabeer69 mentioned. You would be gaining nothing except perhaps a smaller footprint. I know two brothers that each have the Laguna 3hp versions of the short cone cyclones. Both are disappointed with them, in part because they are using 4"/100mm ducts when they should be using 6"/150mm.

I would suggest keeping the dust collector you have, possibly upgrading the filters to cartridges unless it is setup outside, make a Pentz cyclone sized for your DC7 and use 6"/150mm ducts and hose throughout. Dust Collection Research - Home It is in the PROJECTS section of the site. Good idea to read the whole site over a week or two. It would cost less, trading off the time to make it instead. You will have a much better collector and if you can vent outside you could do away with the filters altogether.
