    Default various cyclones design

    hi all

while I was searching for different designs of Cyclones, I came across this manufacturer in Taiwan, seems they make the cyclone for a living? thought I share with you...

    昌澤-產品介紹 DUST CYCLONE

the reason I am considering cyclone other than Clearvue is because Stephen from Clearvueoz is not responding to my email requesting availability of prices...does anyone know if they are still trading?

    thanks

    Hey Albert,

Clearvue Oz is still trading, I've just purchased a MAX system about 1 week ago from them, eagerly awaiting the delivery. I think Stephen gets quite busy and takes a little while to respond sometimes. Just chase him up with a followup email and he'll get back to you shortly.

They look like old cyclone designs - I would avoid these if you can.

The giveaway is the non-ramped entry to the cyclone.

I bought a Carba-Tec cyclone and installed it and after ten minutes of running I switched it off and rang Clearvue in the US. That is literally what happened. I am fortunate it was cheap as it came out of the Melbourne store after it went bust IIRC. Stephen is now the only contact for sales and service in Oz but I will help out if needed as long as it does not concern sales. Any customers of mine who have problems are welcome to contact me and I will be glad to help them with any issues they may have. The Asian generic cyclone is not a good thing due to low impeller speed, small impeller and a short cone in the cyclone. They do have other technical shortfalls as well so the short answer is you get what you pay for and the CV is bang for the buck untouchable in performance.

    Hear ... hear!

For those of us with a smallish shop it is also untouchable on footprint size. Venting outside with no filters is yet another bonus.

I looked long and hard at dust collectors before buying one ... I visited several suppliers and did a bunch of research.

So far as I can see Chris is right, nothing comes close to the CV.

Hi, I'd also recommend venting outside without filters if your particular situation will permit it.

There's no disputing the fact that the Clearvue is the Rolls Royce of dust extractors, but for a small to medium setup, a home made cyclone to Bill Pentz design without a filter with a 2HP or ideally 3HP fan would also perform well for about half the cost.

I see you are in Auckland, I'd be happy to show you my fibreglass cyclone. There's some info and photos on a separate thread here titled something like "fibreglass cyclone project"

Hi Albert, i've been trying to contact Stepen as well - approaching 2 weeks since first email without a response. It might be that he is on holidays or something, hopefully not ill. But I did just notice he has a phone number on his site so think I will give that a go at a reasonable hour over the weekend.

I am sorry you feel abandoned. I was waiting for a reply to my last email asking for your address so I can get a freight price to include with the quote. I have a shipment arriving on or about 22nd of this month.

If there is anyone else who feels ignored please let me know but I have had a problem with one person where my emails were going to his junk folder so you might want to check that.

The problem with any SINGLE PHASE dust extractor is the impeller speed at 50hz. Unless it is raised to 60hz you suffer a 30% (approximately) loss of air flow. By using a three phase motor (cheap) and a VFD you will get the flow that BP designed it for. Remember all BP's calcs are centred around an impeller speed of 3450 RPM @ 60hz. You are literally throwing away a huge performance gain by using single phase.

The theoretical pressure generated by an impeller as a function of RPM speed, change at twice the proportional change in RPM. So if RPM changes by 20% the pressure should changes by 40%. In contrast, the flow changes by a direct proportion ie 20% change RPM should generate a 20% change in flow. In practice here may be a few % difference either way (usually down) but it won't reach 30% for flow.

Nevertheless 20% increase in flow is really worth having.

You just complicated what I wrote and that is a prime example of why people get confused and give up on DE.
