venting a 2-bag
g'day -
just picked up a 2hp 2-bag jet dust extractor (ebay - yay!)
i want to keep the unit inside, but vent it outside my shed
i assume people just fabricate some sort of shroud that seals to the rim of the separator housing and duct off that?
does anyone have any photos of what's been successful?

That's a new one. The only ones I have seen that are kept inside the shed but vented outside have the whole unit inside the shed in a cupboard with a vent from the cupboard to the outside (Zelk I think has one like that). Noisewise this also makes a lot of sense compared to the method you propose.

not a great deal overall; merely the difference between the dust extractor's position within and without the shed
but with the extractor outside, the airstream must carry its payload the entire length of the ductwork; with it living inside but venting outside, the payload must only be carried to whereever the extractor lives along the length of the ductwork

I am talking about the DC being located inside the shed inside a cupboard but venting outside - venting can be via a 2 ft x 2ft vent in the wall which will have practically zero resistance.
With regards being outside, if 1250 cfm is being drawn through 6" ducting, 1 m of extra ducting adds a whole 0.13" of SP, ie hardly something to worry about and well worth getting rid of the noise as well as freeing up valuable space inside a shed.

Mostly people put the whole DE in a vented cupboard/housing. I suppose it would take less material to make up something that would look like a vented wall-hung cabinet (being wall -hung or resting on the DE) which the DE poked its filters up into. Wouldn't be much good if you had cloth bags on the bottom though.
