    Default Waldo's 2nd stage Dusty

    G'day,

Well I got it all put together today after trying to find a local supplier of 4" hose.

I wanted to make the connections into the 44 gal lid as simple as I could so that it was easy to disconnect and to construct which is where the 1st pic comes in - 2 x DWC-PVC Pan Collars 100mm. What I wanted was some plumbing with a collar so I could screw it into the lid without stuffing around with glue without having to get extra bits to mate the hose to PVC piping then to the connection for the lid. The colllars with the rubber collar also meant that I could connect/disconnect the hose as I needed.

Pics 2 and 3 show it all hooked up to the 44 gal lid. (yeah I know the screws aren't nice and symetrical - but it's a practical things, not a work of art)

Pics 5 and 6 show the 2nd stage of the Dusty all ready to rock 'n' roll.

Previously when running the Dusty before the 2nd stage was hooked up I'd leave both gates from the wye open as I found it gave the best suction. Now with the 2nd stage all hooked up and maybe because of the extra volume of the 44 gal drum I close off the gate running to the drop saw.

A test run showed that it works spot on with a little bit of dust in the bottom of the drum when I ran a bit of stock through the b/saw. And the noise of the Dusty has been reduced - not that that worries me and as SWMBO insists I wear earmuffs.

Before anyone says that getting the 44 gal drum out of the corner when full will be a problem and why didn't I change the positioning of Dusty/2nd stage over? Well, it's all a matter of room which is being squashed a bit as I'm about to put an office in the back of the shed. To move the drum when it's full, I'll just load it onto a hand truck and reverse out over the Dusty plumbing.

So there you go, hope it helps.

Al? Shouldn't you be out 'shopping' for your scaffold?

PS. He is right Chris, what you have built is a typhoon or a hurrican, not a cyclone.

    G'day,

Fair enough, we'll call it a typhoon then, as hurricanes are a Northern Hemisphere thing.

Either way it does the job and I'm happy, except SWMBO keeps telling me I keep spending a lot of money of things in the shed. So I come back at her and tell her thet FIL agrees (for once) that it's worth doing.

    Waldo
di you end up finding a supplier of 4" hose?
If so how much does it cost?
I don't want to buy another $89 kit, there are only so many plastic useless blast gates you can use.
    Cheers

    G'day Caliban,

Yes I did, although dearer than C/T prices. Found a place local to me:

    http://www.purplepig.com.au/

Ask at your local plumbing place like Reece and they should be able to put you in the right direction for a supplier.

    At $21 per metre.

But weighing in driving to C/T down here it works out about the same. Could've paid $8 delivery from C/T but that meant downtime waiting as I rather have the machinery connected to the Dusty than spreading dust everywhere.

Their hose is stronger with wire in the ribs and more flexible, but that's neither here or there for what I am using it for.

I was over at the puce pig the other week getting fuel pipe and checked out the 4" hose. It appeared to me at the time to be better quality than the CT stuff. Hard to tell though unless a spec is available. PP does have good industrial gear though, generally speaking.

Waldo - looks really good - I have the same dusty which backs up my RAS, however I have just bought up big on the Qld C/T sale and have bought a new table saw, jointer, drill press and thicknesses - OUCH re the prices but better than catalog - pick them up this Friday in Bne and will have a peek at the wood show and try to meet the UBeaut blokes and thank them for providing this forum. With the new gear I'll be attempting to do the same as you but will probably try the large plastic stock feed drum. Thanks for the pix.

    G'day Bob38S,

You must've had fun like a kid in lolly shop. The new purchases sound great.

I was after a smaller feed drum but from all the calls I made, the 44gal drum is all that is available nowadays - at least down here. 1 produce store I spoke to said he hadn't seen plastic feed drums for 8 months and when he did he bought all the stock he could - 48 drums in total.

Think I had better do this mod for my shed asap. I've put the 4" unit in the shed next to the woodwork one, and of course - out of sight out of mind. Emptying a bag that had filled up to (and beyond the fan :eek (ie into the upper bag) was a bit tricky!!!!

It wasn't space that the unit was put next door (although that was a benefit), it was noise, and all I did was remove the starter from the motor and have that in the main shed so starting and stopping the unit is easy.
